Laura Joyce Manville Redden

Jan 12th, 1949 - Mar 27th, 2026

Biography:

Laura Manville Redden January 12, 1949 – March 27, 2026

Laura Joyce Manville Redden loved her life. She lived it as an artist, a mother, a grandmother (Lala), a friend — and, with great commitment, as an introvert who understood that a quiet life, fully inhabited, is its own kind of abundance.
She worked in many capacities over the years, but she was an artist above all else — with an eye and great appreciation for color and beauty, and hands that knew how to make things. She spent her life doing exactly that, pausing now and then to honor her lifelong smoking habit, which she kept faithfully and without apology until the very end.

She nurtured the people close to her thoughtfully and steadily — with presence and care and genuine attention. She was an extraordinary listener.

She was grateful — genuinely, deeply grateful — for the people who made her life what it was: her daughter Kate, her son-in-law Chris, and her grandson Colin, who were her great loves; her grand-doodles Penny and Luna; her dear friend Karen, whose companionship was one of life's true gifts; her sisters Janet Lemons and Beth Cook, dear nieces and nephews, and the many others who sat with her in her final days and let her reminisce about all of life's joys — which, for Laura, were considerable. She and the family are deeply grateful for the care from her doctors and hospice team.

She was preceded in death by her brother, George Julian Manville Jr., and her beloved canine companion, Lilly Rose.

Kate, I was so fond of your mother. As a friend she was calming for me and that was so helpful to me. We regretfully lost touch when I moved to the DC area, but we were so happy to occasionally run into one another when I would be in town visiting my children. She was very kind when my son was born with a disability and would come hold my hand quietly and let me talk and cry. A very special friend, yes she was.

I am missing you, my wise, kind, smart, brave friend. Thank you for sharing your art with my grandchildren with the knitted animals that are museum worthy. Thank you also for partially raising my daughter and being an outstanding role model. I am ending this tribute the way you always ended your texts. XXX❤️
