Biography:


Charles "Charlie" Wayland Hill, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 at the age of 96. He had a passion for life fueled by his insatiable curiosity that lasted 96 years.

Born on June 4, 1929 Charlie was a life long resident of Little Rock, AR with the exceptions of time on both coasts of the country for his education and while in the service. He graduated Little Rock High, now Little Rock Central High in 1950. Following graduation, he attended Stanford University for undergraduate study and Columbia University for business school. He served 2 years in the United Stated Army Intelligence and was Honorably Discharged. He was working at his family's business, D.B. Hill Contractors when he met and married the love of his life, Annis Cross.

Charlie had a twinkle in his eye and the gift of conversation. He had a genuine love for visiting with others and his charm won many over. He had a strong desire to learn-from people or from reading books, a passion that lasted his entire life. He read a book a week up until the age of 96. He worked the New York Times Crossword puzzle daily. He enjoyed the finer things in life and was excited by beautiful flowers, delicious foods, great movies, Broadway theater and a good martini.  He loved history-especially World War II and military history.  His greatest love was his family and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Charlie was a life time member of Second Presbyterian Church as his faith was important to him. He was baptized and confirmed at Second Presbyterian and served as a Deacon and Elder. 

Charlie is proceeded in death by his parents D.B. and Anna Hill, brother D.B. Hill (Shirley), sisters Mary Ann Mott (Charles) and Sarah Jane Cooper (Ed).He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Annis, his children Angie Reckling (John) and Wayland Hill and grandchildren Anna Reckling and Charlie Reckling and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was interned at Roselawn Memorial Park.
