Biography:

Sherry Ann (ne´e Gavin) Bird of Little Rock passed away on February 14, 2026.  She was born on February 4, 1955 to Charles Q. and Dorothy L. Gavin in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where her father was stationed in the Army at the time.

After early education in Department of Defense schools, she moved with her family to Dumas, Ark. where she lived and attended school until graduation in 1973.  She attended college at Henderson State University and obtained her degree in 1979.  After college she moved to Little Rock and built an impressive resume in marketing and public relations.

Sherry was a wonderful, talented woman, full of caring for others with heartfelt concern while enjoying life with laughter and fun.  She showed a respect and honesty to all who knew her.  Her dedication to her health was near legendary.  From finishing the 2003 Little Rock Marathon and other shorter runs, to her bicycle career of multiple Tour de Rock and Big Dam Bridge rides, to her spending hours at the gym several days a week and walking miles on other days, she was always focused on her physical health and mental well-being.  Using her beekeeping skills, her “girls” produced many gallons of delicious honey.

Sherry was a dedicated, committed Christian.  She was baptized in Dumas at an early age and maintained membership in one Methodist church or another all her life.  She joined Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in the early 1990’s and remained an active presence until her death, including full participation in the PHUMC Diaper Bank.

Sherry married Allen W. Bird II on March 20, 1993.  They had a wonderful marriage with travel and time together including all her athletic endeavors (with him being always about a mile behind!)

Sherry was predeceased in death by her paternal grandparents, Lewis Edwin Gavin and Marie O. (ne´e “Thompson”) Gavin, her maternal grandparents, William H. Tyler and Mary Florence (n ne´e “Poteet”) Tyler all of Cleveland County, Ark.; her father and mother, Charles Q. Gavin and Dorothy L. (ne´e “Tyler”) Gavin of Dumas, Ark; and her sister-in-law Vanessa Gavin.
Sherry is survived by her husband Allen, and his two children, Karen Bird Day (Thomas), and Allen W. Bird III (“Will”) of Little Rock, and grandchildren Anna Claire Day of Springdale, Ark. and Jackson Day of Little Rock.  She is also survived by her sister Brenda Gavin Anderson of Farmington, Ark., sister Becky (Bob) Horton of Lakeland, Tenn., and brother Don Gavin of Katy, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews and their children.  And, of course, Tyler, her Westie.

Sherry requested, in lieu of flowers, that all who desire contribute to the Sherry and Allen Bird Endowment at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Dr., Little Rock, AR 72205.

A Columbarium Service will be at 10:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary on March 5, 2026 at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Dr., Little Rock, AR 72205. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

So sorry to hear about the loss of Sherry. We were friends in high school and had great times cheering together for the Bobcats and loving the small town life and special community of Dumas. Sherry’s smile and great personality always lit up the room! She was kind and fun, quick to laugh and always full of energy. Even though we were young, there was never any doubt that Sherry would be successful and make a big impact. Indeed, she did. Sending prayers to all the family.

Sherry and I went to school together. I was so shy back then, therefore we were not close, but I always admired how kind she was to others, so joyfully and full of life. She will be missed by her physical family here on earth. PRAISE JOY TO THE HIGHEST FOR NOW SHERRY WILL NOW LOOK THE LORD IN THE EYES AND LIVE ETERNALLY IN HEAVEN! Amen and AMEN!
