Biography:

Devoted wife, proud mother, adored sister, gifted teacher, and talented artist, Lee Williams Salazar passed away on the morning of January 31st, 2026.

Born June 20th, 1954, Lee was the youngest of five children. As the baby of the family, she was treasured by her parents and older siblings alike. Growing up in Little Rock, she spent her summers swimming at the Cammack Pool and working at her family’s State Farm Insurance agency. She quickly learned office life was not for her and decided to major in Art Education, earning degrees from Cottey and Hendrix Colleges.

Known to her students as Ms. Feild, Lee spent 40 years teaching thousands of children elementary art at Pulaski Academy. She was recognized twice as Arkansas Art Educator of the Year, received multiple accolades in national publications, and built a successful docent program so her students could learn about history’s most famous artists. Lee, however, rarely mentioned these accomplishments. Instead, she lit up when she spoke of her students, her colleagues and fellow teachers, and her next classroom project. Everywhere Lee went she ran into current and former students, never forgetting their names or their favorite art projects. In her final years of teaching, Lee was honored with a donation to name her classroom the “Lee Feild Art Room,” with a plaque that remains to this day.

After retiring, Lee traveled the world with her husband, Rick. Together they sipped Port in Portugal, saw penguins in Antarctica, rode camels in Cairo, ventured by train to the top of Machu Picchu, and walked the Great Wall of China hand in hand. While she loved traveling, Lee was always happiest laughing and hosting family and friends on the back deck of her and Rick’s home overlooking the Little Red River.

She cherished her friendships, regularly seeing her Bridge Club of more than 40 years just to visit (and sometimes play Bridge), always reserved Tuesday nights for her and Rick's dinner group, loved reminiscing with other retired teachers from PA over lunch, and was a member of the PEO Sisterhood.

Lee was a devoted and proud mother to her three children, Stuart, Mary, and Helen. A constant advocate, cheerleader, and confidant, she never missed a chance to call just to say a quick hello and “I love you.”

Her genuine smile, sweet demeanor, and quick laugh will be deeply missed by her adoring husband, Rick Salazar; her children, Stuart Feild (Breyanne Yuskus), Mary Feild (Zachary Michalka), and Helen Petticord (Lars); her stepdaughter, Jennifer Alaquinez; her sister, Ellen Williams Williams; her brother, Lewin Williams; and her five grandchildren, Alexa, Finley, Max, Franklin, and Everett Lee. Loved ones who passed before her include her parents, Phillip and Virginia Williams; her brothers, Phillip Williams Jr. and Rufus Williams; her stepson, Thomas Salazar; and her lifelong best friend, Kathy Gravis.

The family will hold a celebration of life on Thursday, February 26th, at 1 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home. A reception with refreshments will immediately follow. All who wish to say goodbye are welcome to attend and share stories of remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ellen and Lee Williams Art Scholarship at Cottey College.

We were truly blessed to have met Rick and Lee on a very memorable Viling River Cruise a few years ago,. This led to a wonderful friendship and doing some travelling with them to Portugal, Spain, Maderia, and France as well as visiting them at their home in Little Rock and cottage at Red River where Lee taught us how to play Crowns while enjoying a glass or two of wine. When it was mentioned having to wear gumboots Lee started to laugh as only Lee could ...I had to tell her that is what we Canadians call rubber boots and this became a standing joke between us .
Our heartfelt love and deepest Sympathy go out to Rick and Family during this very difficult time. Lee will be truly missed
but all the wonderful memories of her will stay with us forever and when I see a Yellow Duck I'll be thinking of Lee.

I was a colleague of Lee’s at PA. As the newbie on the “ActivitiesTeam” of Cindy Rotenberry, Shirley Nichols and Lee, she was my mentor and guide of all things PA. We shared a love of reading and she always had good books to share. Our sons were in the same class so she often counseled and comforted me. She was a fun, light to all she came in contact with. Stuart, Mary, Helen, my heart and prayers are with you. Patty Snider. LS Computer

It is with a heavy heart that I recognize such an amazing person. I will never forget this precious child that came to begin here teaching career at PA. What a blessing she was to PA. Her knowledge of art and how she had every child excelling right along with her. Her sweet smile and positive thinking will never be forgotten. It was time for my son to get his first car. I was talking about it with Lee and she tells me they are trying to sell their Mazda. We took our son to their home and a deal was made that everyone was a winner! He loved it!
Her kindness was still there in 2023. There is a collective group of PA former employees. She reached out to the group of 9 that she was included in. She and Rick were downsizing and moving to Maumelle. She posted that she no longer had room for her PA rocking chair and offered it to anyone that wanted it. I told her if no one spoke up, I would take it and pass it on. She and Rick brought it to me. That was the last time I saw her. That is the “kind” person she was. I will always have such fond memories as she seemed to grow up right before us. Teacher, wife, mother and most of all a true friend to so many. We love you and will miss you. To never be forgotten!❤️

I’m so privileged to have taught at Pulaski Academy in the art program there. She was amazing and we had such fun together in the years I spent there. We traveled together every year to the national Art Education Conference s and always presented together on how to enhance programs from Pre K through 12 and we always had such fun and our sessions were well attended! I left PA to attend grad school and always tried to stay in touch with her. She lit up every room she walked into with her smile. I was so happy when she and Rick found each other and they got to travel and experience so many wonderful adventures. It was a magical match for her. I will alway miss her and send deepest condolences to All the family. Her love for each of you was so deep. Cherish all the memories in your hearts.

Lee was my roommate at Cottey College in Colorado Minear Suite. I cannot print all the fun we had. I will never forget our last conversation filled with travel talk and (like always) laughter. My deepest condolence on the loss of Lee Lee. ❤️
