Biography: Patricia “Patty” Payne Smith, age 86, passed away on September 28, 2025, after a three-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was preceded in death by husband, Michael R. Smith; father, Ed Payne; and mother, Doris Barham. She is survived by son, Mike Smith Jr. (Rachel), grandsons Michael Richard Smith III (Marisa) and Carter Benjamin Smith (Sierra), and daughter, Amy Karen Smith, her sister, Joan Neikirk and brother, Tom Wallace (Anne).

Patty was born on December 14, 1938, in Mena, Arkansas.  She attended the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, met her eventual husband Mike Smith and graduated with a business degree. Patty and Mike settled in Little Rock, began their careers and raised a family.  She was committed to supporting her family who felt her steadfast love and devotion.

Patty was known for her busy lifestyle.  When she was not doing something for a friend, charity or family member she was advancing her business efforts. Patty had a practical, resourceful and entrepreneurial spirit. She mostly loved the antique business she founded with her friends and business partners.  Patty enjoyed the chase for furnishings that she could repurpose, sell for a profit and fit the perfect place in someone’s home.

Patty was a longstanding member of Pulaski Heights Methodist Church for 64 years. She loved the Lord and studied His word.  She was involved in numerous ministry efforts and bible study groups over the years and was proud to be the first female usher that the church ever had.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10am at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church Foundation, Michael R. Smith Family Endowment or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
