Biography: NICHOLAS BLACK SOKORA, whose energy, beaming smile, and innumerable stories brought joy to so many, passed away unexpectedly on April 19th, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Nick was born in Little Rock on May 28, 1995, to Dawne (Attwood) and James Black Sokora, and he lived his 29 years to the absolute fullest. After moving with his family to Illinois, Tennessee, and Viginia, Nick returned to his beloved Arkansas in 2011. He attended Holy Souls Elementary and graduated with Little Rock Catholic High School’s Class of 2014, where he brought his talents in lacrosse from the east coast and helped initiate the sport at CHS. Nick went on to receive his associate’s degree from Arkansas Tech University in 2016. After college, Nick attended the Arkansas Fire Training Academy in Camden and upon completion, served with distinction with the Moreland, Cabot, Jacksonville, and Little Rock Fire Departments.
Nick was extremely proud of being a firefighter and found his life’s calling in serving and saving others. His brotherhood at the station was among his most cherished relationships, and Nick could hold an audience for hours with stories of midnight tone-outs, outrageous rescue situations, and of course firehouse pranks with his fellow firemen. He was also an avid outdoorsman and duck hunter and spent many a cold, bright morning with friends and family on the Grand Prairie, telling tall tales and claiming extremely dubious feats of marksmanship. Nick’s outgoing, optimistic personality was contagious; he defined the word “extrovert” and left a lasting, positive impression on everyone he met. Nick also had a legendary work ethic and would drop everything to help others, no matter the time or effort required. A happy hour or lake weekend with a Budweiser, radio blaring, a fine cigar, and those close to him was his happy place. Whether in recreation or his career, Nick attacked challenges and life itself with dynamic, unparalleled, unquenchable energy. There won’t be another like Nick, and we miss him with all our hearts.
Nick is preceded in death by his grandparents and niece, Ellie. He is survived by his parents Jimmy and Dawne; by his sister Hannah Sokora Rose (Chris); by his brother Zachary Sokora (Laura) and nephew Theodore James Sokora, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
