Biography: Robert Patterson (“Patt”) Pine was born in Little Rock on December 19, 1970, the only child given to Robert Henry Pine, Jr. and Dorcas Sue Patterson Pine. The perfect holiday gift, the staff at St. Vincent Infirmary sent Patt home in a Christmas stocking. Every year after, to avoid any confusion as to whose birthday came first, his proud mother waited to decorate the house for Christmas until Patt’s birthday had been properly celebrated.
As a young man, Patt was involved in the Children’s Theatre at the Arkansas Arts Center, competitive swimming, and the Boy Scouts of America, having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville from which he graduated in 1993, and where he forged many of his closest, most enduring friendships. Following graduation, he attended the University of Arkansas William H. Bowen School of Law, passing the Arkansas Bar Exam in 1996. Patt was a practicing attorney for many years and was known and respected in the legal community.
Patt met his husband Andrew in 2007, and though the relationship flourished, he sometimes found himself lamenting Andrew’s decision to follow him into the legal profession. The educational rigors were a formidable undertaking the first time he went through it. It did not become easier enduring it again through Andrew. But, no one was happier or more proud (and relieved) when the latter’s successful Bar Exam results were announced. Together, Patt and Andrew spent many wonderful years traveling the world and visiting with family and friends. His was ultimately a beautiful life of love and service. Patt freely shared his quiet wisdom, quick wit and wry smiles with anyone fortunate enough to know and love him.
Robert Patterson Pine died at home on April 14, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
