Biography: In loving memory of Sara Harrison, 92 years young, who passed away on April 8, 2025. Sara Lee Jernigan was born in Malvern, Arkansas, on Nov. 23, 1932, to loving parents Vance and Mayme Jernigan. Sara grew up riding horses and even became Rodeo Queen at the Arkansas Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1947. She attended Hendrix College, earning her degree in English Literature. At college, she met and later married Jack Harrison in 1958. They had three children, Beverly, Ellen, and Kathryn, and settled in Texarkana, Arkansas to raise the girls. Sara was active in First United Methodist Church in Texarkana, where she taught Sunday school, played handbells, and worked in the church library.

Sara eventually decided to go back to school to earn her masters’ degree in Library science. She was the school librarian at College Hill Jr High in Texarkana, helping many students with her love of literature and research.

She moved to Little Rock in 1999, where she joined Pulaski Heights Methodist Church. She was very active at PHUMC, serving others through the Society of St Stephens, the Guatemala Mission Board, Circle of Hope, Board of Stewards, Christ Care, and playing handbells. Sara worked at the church as receptionist, secretary, and managing the church library.

Sara is dearly missed and survived by her daughter Beverly Harrison (Sylvia Aquino) and their two children Austin and Jordan Aquino-Harrison, Ellen Oliver and her children Aaron and Mason Oliver, and Kathryn Goff (Curtis) and their sons Taylor and Curry, and 5 great grandchildren.

Sara will be inurned at the columbarium at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church in a small private ceremony. A larger Celebration of Life will be held at a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harrison Family Endowment at Pulaski Heights UMC or to the Pulaski County Humane Society.

Beverly, Ellen and Kathryn, I was so sorry to see about mama Sara‘s passing. She was such a good neighbor to me and my boys and when Taylor came over him and Neal had so much fun. God bless you all.

I was very sad to hear of Sara’s passing! I loved her so very much! There were so many things about Sara that reminded me of my mother, who also died as the result of Parkinson’s disease! My relief comes from knowing that she will not suffer anymore!9

My heart is heavy with the sadness of sweet Sara’s leaving. Her spirit was, kind, gentle, yet fiercely given to who and what she loved, believed in. I will truly miss her. One of her givings that endeared her to me personally was her love of my dog, Dot, and my last visit with her was when Dot and I saw her at Woodland Heights. Dot adored Sara. Dot died this past Fall, breaking my heart. Knowing she was there to welcome Sara gives me peace for both of them. To honor Sara through the Humane Society is a happy fit. Peace, love, and comfort to all as you grieve and celebrate this gorgeous woman and her life.

Just like your Mom you all came from good stock. She was the rock of your family. I know she is so proud of each of you. She lives in you. Remember her laughter and her infectious smile. May God comfort you, where there appears no comfort. Love you all Rocky or Janice Stanley

Beverly, Ellen, and Kathryn,
Your mom was such a treasure! We continue to feel close to all of you because we live in the Texarkana house you grew up in. We still enjoy your grandmother’s sheers in the dining room. Your mom’s style and grace were unmatched. She was our Sunday School Mom for all of us young couples who were having babies. She touched so many lives, and we were blessed to be among those in her circle. May your grief be wrapped in comforting memories of the great life she led. Kathy and George Leade

Beverly, Ellen and Kathryn.... What great times we had in our younger years following in your Mom's footsteps, loving and riding horses. Of course we had the best teacher in Vance. Your Mom was a wonderful lady. She called me a few years ago. I really enjoyed our visit. May you always remember your good times with a beautiful lady. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
