Biography: In loving memory of Sara Harrison, 92 years young, who passed away on April 8, 2025. Sara Lee Jernigan was born in Malvern, Arkansas, on Nov. 23, 1932, to loving parents Vance and Mayme Jernigan. Sara grew up riding horses and even became Rodeo Queen at the Arkansas Livestock Show and Rodeo in 1947. She attended Hendrix College, earning her degree in English Literature. At college, she met and later married Jack Harrison in 1958. They had three children, Beverly, Ellen, and Kathryn, and settled in Texarkana, Arkansas to raise the girls. Sara was active in First United Methodist Church in Texarkana, where she taught Sunday school, played handbells, and worked in the church library.
Sara eventually decided to go back to school to earn her masters’ degree in Library science. She was the school librarian at College Hill Jr High in Texarkana, helping many students with her love of literature and research.
She moved to Little Rock in 1999, where she joined Pulaski Heights Methodist Church. She was very active at PHUMC, serving others through the Society of St Stephens, the Guatemala Mission Board, Circle of Hope, Board of Stewards, Christ Care, and playing handbells. Sara worked at the church as receptionist, secretary, and managing the church library.
Sara is dearly missed and survived by her daughter Beverly Harrison (Sylvia Aquino) and their two children Austin and Jordan Aquino-Harrison, Ellen Oliver and her children Aaron and Mason Oliver, and Kathryn Goff (Curtis) and their sons Taylor and Curry, and 5 great grandchildren.
Sara will be inurned at the columbarium at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church in a small private ceremony. A larger Celebration of Life will be held at a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harrison Family Endowment at Pulaski Heights UMC or to the Pulaski County Humane Society.
