Biography: Bill Humble of Little Rock passed away on March 25, 2025. He was born in Pikeville, TN on April 8, 1938, to Lloyd and Ruby (Scott) Humble. He grew up in Pikeville, TN and graduated from Bledsoe County High School in 1955.
Upon his graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served honorably for four years; spending two of those years serving in China.
When he was discharged from the Air Force he moved to Arkansas and spent a few years selling insurance. He met the love of his life Liane (Lee) Rhein in 1971, and they were married October 5, 1973.
After their marriage they re-opened Rhynecliffe’s, her family’s neck-tie business and quickly established a partnership with Tandy Brands Accessories based out of Texas. Their partnership grew over the years, and they sold millions of ties across the country even outfitting Presidents Clinton, Reagen, and both Bushes.
With his business partners he founded U-Storit in Little Rock which led him to go on to found the Arkansas Self Storage Association, serving as President for several years.
He was involved in many philanthropies. He served on the board of the Arkansas State Police Foundation. Donated to many causes including Catholic High School, Mount St. Mary’s Academy, CARTI, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the UAMS Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, and many others.
He will be remembered as a loving family man, a remarkable businessman and salesman, gifted story-teller, philanthropist, and a mentor and father-figure to many. He was smart, competitive, liked to tell a joke and will be dearly missed by everyone that knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene Humble (Corabell), and his sister Joyce Fisher (Charles). He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years Liane Humble; his step-children Edwin Shollmier (Mary), Jeffrey Shollmier (Vicki), Phil Billingsley (Jeannie), and Linda Thorla (Howard); daughter-in-law Denise Crumpton (Ted); grandchildren, Betsy Blankenship (Ben), Haley McWhirt (Chris), Karl Shollmier, Lindsay Solorzano (Nathan), Natalie Billingsley, and Nathan Bilingsley; as well as great-grandchildren Ann Ramsay, Barrett, Cadence, Lexi, Anthony, and Marcus.
A visitation will be on Tuesday April 1 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Ruebel Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday April 2 at 11:00am at the Cathedral of St. Andrew at 617 Louisiana Street, Little Rock, AR 72201 followed by internment at Pinecrest Cemetery.
