Biography: Ann Simon Storthz, 103, passed away on December 20, 2024.
She was born on April 27, 1921, in Peru, IN, the only child of the late Arthur and Frances Simon. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sam Storthz Jr., who passed away more than 25 years ago. Ann often reminisced about Sam, reflecting on their deep love and the many fond memories they shared throughout their lives.
Ann is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Storthz and Lynne Storthz Hoos, and her son, Sam Storthz III (Suzanne Klimberg). She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Sade Storthz, Spencer Storthz Curzon (Andrew), K.C. Hoos (Jen), Anne Hoos Herr (Kevin), Randy Hoos (Yevette), and William Hoos (Beth); 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Ann attended Ohio State University and Butler University and volunteered at the USO in Indianapolis, Indiana, during World War II, where she met her future husband, Sam Storthz Jr., of Little Rock, AR, while he was temporarily stationed there with the Army. Ann married Sam in 1946 after the war, and they built a beautiful life together in Little Rock.
She often marveled at the large and loving family that grew from her being an only child, cherishing every moment she spent with them. Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, who never forgot a birthday or special occasion.
Ann loved traveling, especially to New York City, and enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, and watching game shows and soap operas on television. She was active in scouting and the PTA during her children’s school years, reflecting her dedication to family and community.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Oakland Jewish Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Temple B’nai Israel Storthz Religious School Fund, The Arkansas Foodbank, or a charity of your choice.
