Biography: George E. McLeod, 85, of Little Rock passed away December 14th, 2024. He was the son of the late Warren and Mildred McLeod of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. George was born February 9, 1939, in Jonesboro and raised in Walnut Ridge. He was a good student and a good athlete at Walnut Ridge High School. As a four-year letterman in football, he played in the second Arkansas High School All-Star Football Game.
George attended The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville from 1957 to 1961. He was a Razorback Football Scholarship Athlete playing linebacker from 1957 to 1959. George also became a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and a member of Blue Key, a men’s leadership fraternity. He graduated in 1961 with a degree in Business Administration. After spending a year in graduate school, George went on active duty with the U.S. Army. He served two years as an Infantry Officer.
After his military service, George started a career as an investment advisor. He helped numerous clients develop retirement investments while working at Merrill Lynch, Reynolds Securities, Dean Witter and Morgan Stanley until his retirement in 2002. During his career, George earned the coveted Certified Financial Planner designation. He also was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, Executive Education Program.
Over the years, George was active in a number of organizations and associations including the Little Rock Jaycees, Cosmopolitan Group of Alcoholics Anonymous, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Foundation Board, the Country Club of Little Rock Board of Directors, the Arkansas Arts Center Collector’s Group, Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma Alumni Association, the Rotary Club of Little Rock, UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute Advisory Board, the Arkansas Community Foundation Board, Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and the PHUMC Foundation.
George is preceded in death by Carolyn Harris McLeod, his beloved wife of 61 years. George leaves the following family members: his son Scott McLeod and his two daughters Maggie and Emily; his son Matt McLeod and his son Morgan; his daughter Mary McLeod and her wife Tracie Garrett; and his sister Jeanne McLeod of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
A private, family-only funeral service will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, followed by a Friends and Family Reception at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 West Markham St., Little Rock, Arkansas from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Interment will be in the Columbarium Gardens at PHUMC. Memorial gifts may be made to the PHUMC Foundation at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Other gifts may be made to the Arkansas Community Foundation for the Xi Chapter of Kappa Sigma Scholarship Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
