Biography: LILA BESS KEITH RIGGS, age 89, of Little Rock, AR, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Lila was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother, sister, and friend.  Her greatest role was being “Mimi” to her 14 grandchildren.

Born October 6, 1935, in Malvern, AR, to Lethal and James Edwin Keith, she was the oldest of three daughters.  Her father was a Methodist minister who served in several southern Arkansas churches.  The family moved to Little Rock when her father was appointed to the First United Methodist Church.  That is where she met her future husband of 64 years, John A. (Jack) Riggs III.

Lila & Jack had 5 children whom Lila was devoted to.  You could always find her volunteering in their schools and various extracurricular activities.  She was also very involved in the community, serving with the Junior League of Little Rock, Delta Gamma, Boys & Girls Club, and Wildwood Park.

Lila is predeceased by her parents; husband, Jack, and granddaughter Emily Vollers.  She leaves behind to cherish her memory, children: Rebekah (Jim) Wright of Glastonbury, CT.;  John (Anna) Riggs IV, Keith (Sally) Riggs, Marci Riggs, and Lila Riggs (Rick Davis), all of Little Rock.  She also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren: Ricky Wright of Milford, NH;  Katie Wright (Matt Adamic) of Dallas; Charlotte (Steve) Haines of Nevada City, CA.;  Arthur (Dylan) Riggs of Little Rock; Patrick (Irene) Riggs of Albuquerque, NM; Thomas Riggs (Broomfield, CO); Charlie Vollers (Baltimore, MD); Madeline (Joe) Bailey of West Palm Beach, FL; Dianne (Matt) Kaylor of Mosier, OR; Natalie (Miguel) Alvarez of Little Rock; Annie Niswanger of New York City; Jesse Niswanger of Boston, MA; and Stephanie Niswanger of Tempe, AZ; two great-grandsons, Jack and Finn Riggs of Little Rock; sisters Paula (Raymond) Hagerman of Sheboygan, WI; Edwina Keith of Little Rock, as well as numerous nieces & nephews,  and her beloved dog, Beau. A special thank you to Melinda Hernandez for her loving care over the last few years.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Friday, December 13, 2024, at St. James United Methodist Church (321 Pleasant Valley Dr., Little Rock), with a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Methodist Family Health (P.O. Box 56050, Little Rock, AR 72205 or https://www.methodistfamily.org/donate/) or a charity of your choice.

John, I met your mom when Zach and I were in YPO. She and your dad quickly became my favorite couple to hang out with. She was so nice, fun and easy to talk to. I’m sorry for your loss. Dianne

Most of my childhood memories involve Lila and her family. She was dedicated to being the best person she could be for her family. And I loved her spirit and dedication even as a child. I am a better person because I have her as an example of being a good mother and an incredible human being. God bless all the Riggs family
