Biography: Aletheye Joan Anderson Bass passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Little Rock on Friday, November 1. Born March 13, 1941, in Malvern, Arkansas, Joan was a cherished member of the community and a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother.
Joan’s family moved a great deal but they landed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Joan went to Central High School. She then attended the University of Arkansas and met the love of her life, Bob Bass. They married after Bob’s graduation. The country was embroiled in the Vietnam war, so Joan and Bob first headed off to Fort Knox in Tennessee for Bob’s Army Officer Training. They were then stationed at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington, for his military service. Their first son, Rob, was born in Tacoma. After Bob fulfilled his commitment, Joan and Bob moved back to Bob’s hometown of Little Rock to begin a new life with their growing family.
Best known as a talented interior designer, Joan owned her own business for many years, Joan Bass Interiors. She had great fun working with her dear friend and side-kick, Georgianna Gunn. Together they decorated a multitude of homes throughout the community. Joan was a great story-teller and entertained many with her unique wit and wonderful sense of humor.
Joan was a long-time member of Christ Church. She also was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Junior League of Little Rock. Joan enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and more recently Mah Jongg, sharing many joyful times with friends and family through these activities over the years. She and Bob also loved to travel with friends and family, experiencing many unique domestic and international destinations.
Joan is survived by her three sons: Robert Woods Bass, Jr. (Debbie), Logan Anderson Bass (partner, Connie Gettig), and Walker Farley Bass (partner, Heather Brown); two grandsons, Anderson Woods Bass (Kelcee) and Walter Edward Bass (Amisha Parikh-Friese); her sister, Jeanne Blair; niece, Katie Blair Tooley (Matt) and great-niece Sarah Tooley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Dorthy Anderson, and her beloved husband, Robert Woods Bass.
A Visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock, AR, on Wednesday, November 6, from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The family will have a private memorial gathering at a later time.
