Biography: The road rose to meet him…the winds are now at his back… The Son is shining on his face… & until we meet again, God is holding William Brannon McCarty in the palm of His hand. Born September 1, 1950, in Pope County, to Geraldine Rollans McCarty & Dean “Bill” Carroll McCarty (both deceased) his family moved to Little Rock & he graduated from Central High School-1968 and UALR-1975. A renaissance man… humor, wit & a contagious laugh followed him where ever he went; Bran had a doctorate in life. Whether working for Stephens investment firm, opening markets or, with his partners, the Whole Hog Restaurants in Memphis, he was a master chef: in culinary venues and in bringing out the best in all he knew. His love of music went deep into the rhythm of life and his remembrances of each song the first time he heard it included many tales always including his numerous friends. He was a man who consumed books the same way he approached each day. His list of achievements is many but his list of friends is longer. A heart attack may have taken him from our presences but it also gave him the opportunity to be with the author of the number one selling book of all times and to hear music that he only imagined. His life left a rhythm and beat, with words written on each heart he touched, which will live on as long as those who knew him. Survivors include his fiancée & best friend, Martha Alexander, brother - Fred Osborne and his wife Kathy, and step-son & wife, Brian & Tara Gibbs, sons -Matthew & Lucas. Olivia, Alex and Rachel were the zest in his life. A private wake will be held to uphold Bran’s wishes. To honor Bran send contributions to Arkansas Children’s Hospital – 800 Marshall, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202 or to the Humane Society of Pulaski County – 14600 Col. Glenn Road Little Rock, AR. 72223. Cremation arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com. “I’ll not fail to tell you that I love you … Simply sleep in peace until I come to you.”

I woke up this morning remembering a weekend trip to New Orleans with some friends. I thought of Bran and wanted to let him know I was thinking of him. When I found this, my eyes welled with tears. I've thought of him often, but never called. Now, I wish I had. I loved him but he never knew . . .

Bran was a great neighbor to me & my parents for over 15 years. His friendship was a real blessing when my father was diagnosed with melanoma in 2004. We pray that his family will experience God's comfort.

Bran was truly a great person, and a friend. I had the pleasure of opening the first Whole Hog in Memphis with him. He taught me alot, and taught me to enjoy life at its fullest. He surely loved life and loved people. He touched many lives and it was a pleasure to know and learn from him. My prayers are with you Martha, and the family.

Our sincere condolences go out to Bran's family and friends. Bran was a great person, full of life, laughter and always sharing that wonderful smile. We will miss his "festive" presence at the Memphis Italian Festival but will always remember him for his generosity. May you find comfort in knowing Bran touched the lives of many and will be missed by all.

I am incredibly sorry for your loss. I have grown very fond of Bran over these last two years as we worked to find restaurant locations around the Mid South. I will always remember his kind words and caring counsel on life. Bran enjoyed life, that is for certain, and I aspire to have the kind of positive impact on others that he had.

Knowing Bran, I am certain that he is having quite an impact on heaven and the new years party will be like none before.

I can almost hear Bran now, greeting St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, with a smile, a twinkle in his eye, and the announcement, "Ladies and Gentlemen, MISTER AL GREEN!" What a swell guy. I'll miss him. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
