Biography: Mary Padgett Crockett Davis, 91, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died September 26, 2024. Born September 29, 1932, in Nashville TN to Mary Padgett Crockett and Watkins Crockett Jr., where she attended Parmer School and Hillsboro High School. At Vanderbilt University, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and Phi Beta Kappa, graduating magna cum laude in 1954. It was at Vanderbilt that she met her future husband, “Stinky” Davis, while sitting in alphabetical order in a philosophy class. Following graduation, Mary and Milford married and moved to his hometown of Little Rock, AR.
Growing up, Mary was always active in a variety of clubs, sports, and other activities. For several years she was a camp counselor at summer camps in TN, NC, and WI, usually teaching archery and swimming.
Mary was a loyal friend and always kind and loving. She was loved by so many. In fact, in her last years, her caregivers would argue over who got to stay with "Miz Mary" because she was always so nice and easy to be with. Most of all, she loved her family, and they loved her and will carry on her legacy of love.
For many years Mary worked for UALR in the Registrar’s office and as director of the Information Desk. Students and faculty knew her as the one who could help find the answers to the most difficult questions, always with a smile.
A woman of deep faith and a lifelong Methodist, Mary sang in the choir at West End United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN and served as a leader in the college ministry. At First United Methodist Church in Little Rock she taught Sunday School, chaired the Education Committee, supported the youth ministry, and was a founding member of the Bowen-Cabe Sunday School class, a Stephen Minister, and member of the Altar Guild.
Mary was active in many civic and service organizations, often serving as President, including Chapter AZ of P. E. O., the Junior League of Little Rock, and PTAs in her children's schools. She was a Girl Scout leader and chaperoned countless school field trips, dances, and other activities for her children. Even in her later years, she continued to serve through Al-Anon, and on the residents' council at Pleasant Hills, one whom the staff would always introduce prospective residents to as she always encouraged them to want to move there.
Preceded in death by her husband, Milford Herschel Davis, Jr.; parents, Watkins Crockett, Jr and Mary Crockett Knox; daughter, Mary Rebecca Davis; and brother, Watkins Crockett III.
Mary is survived by daughter, Rev. Margaret Davis Freeman (Dr. James R.
