Biography: James Campbell Woods, Jr. passed away on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, age 34. He was born June 20,1990 in Little Rock, Arkansas to James Campbell Woods, Sr. and Jane Turnage Woods. He is survived by his parents, sisters Julia and Laurel Woods, maternal grandmother Dorothy Turnage, Aunts and Uncles – Dr. Richard and Jill Turnage, John and Dr. Pat Turnage, William and Therese Turnage, Amy Hanley, Anne Woods, Bill and Jan Eastwood; and many cousins.
Campbell was a member of Christ Lutheran Church Little Rock. He was a former acolyte at Christ Lutheran and at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. He was baptized at Trinity and confirmed at Christ Lutheran. His Christian faith was instilled in him at an early age, and remained all the days of his life.
Campbell attended Christ Lutheran School from kindergarten to eighth grade. He played football, basketball, and golf as a CLS Bulldog. During his time CLS won several Parochial League Championships. Campbell graduated from Catholic High School for Boys in 2008. He was a four-year letterman in football for The Rockets. He was a starter at cornerback and a “gunner” on special teams. His freshman team achieved the best win loss record in the history of Catholic High. When he was on the varsity, The Rockets qualified for three 7A playoffs – finishing third in the state in 2006. Campbell was also a member of The Marine Corp JROTC at CHS as a sophomore.
In 2008, Campbell achieved the highly esteemed Eagle Scout rank as a member of Boy Scout Troop 395. He was also a member of Scouting’s Order of The Arrow.
Campbell graduated from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville in 2012 with a BA in History. He was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity (SAE).
He was a passionate Razorback and Dallas Cowboys fan. His knowledge of football at both the college and professional level was extraordinary. He loved golf. In 2006 he played two rounds at The Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, and parred the famous Road Hole Number 17 on his first try. He then attended The British Open at Royal Liverpool, England. He was accompanied on this trip by his father.
Following college Campbell worked in marketing. He was the first Marketing Director for the College Hunks Hauling Junk franchise in Little Rock. Following that he worked in the food brokerage sector for Way Point and The Core Group servicing Tyson Foods, Kraft, and Sysco. He then transitioned into financial and sales management. Campbell held a Life and Health license with the Arkansas Department of Insurance.
His funeral service will be held on September 14th at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran, 315 South Hughes Street, Little Rock, Arkansas. A reception will follow. Following the reception, all are welcomed to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral 310 W 17th St, Little Rock, Arkansas, where Campbell’s ashes will be interned in the columbarium where his paternal grandparents rest.
While we have lost Campbell, we will honor his life, his courage, his great spirit, his incomparable smile, and his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
