Biography: James “Jim” Powell Morrison, age 70, passed away from natural causes on August 12, 2024.
Born September 12, 1953 in Little Rock, Arkansas, to parents Mary Jeanette and James Russell Morrison, Jim grew up with a variety of interests ranging from photography to Formula One race cars. He once built his own dark room and later did a brief stint at a Canadian racing school.
Jim attended Ouachita Baptist University and received his bachelor’s degree from UALR. He built a successful career trading commodities, working as a floor trader at the Chicago Board of Trade for several years before returning to Little Rock where he helped raise a family of four children, coaching their soccer teams at Christ the King.
Jim will be remembered for his kindness, affability and generosity. He was the type of person who could strike up a conversation with anyone about anything, and he’d gladly cross a busy street to give a person in need the twenty-dollar bill he always kept in his wallet for that reason.
Jim’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and taking road trips out west. His friends would often say, “Jim’s a great guy,” and we couldn’t agree more. We will miss and love him always.
Jim is preceded in death by his father, James R. Morrison. He is survived by his mother, Mary Jeanette Morrison and sisters Mary Ann Knox (Rick) of Little Rock, Jan Ferguson (Mark) of Austin, Texas; son, James Martin Morrison (Amre) of Atlanta, GA, daughters Jenny Morrison (Luis) of Little Rock, Grace Thomas (Scott) of Dallas, TX and Andie Smith (Shawn) of Combs, AR. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Luke, Kate, and Charlie Thomas and Ocean Morrison.
The family will have a private service. Jim would have requested that any memorial contributions be sent to his favorite charity Southern Poverty Law Center www.splcenter.org Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
