Biography: George Edward Peters Sr., born July 30th, 1941, died on Monday, July 24th 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, The Reverend O.D. Peters and Inez Peters, and his sister, Margaret Peters Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Diane Peters, a son, George Edward Peters Jr, a grandson, George Edward Angel Peters, brothers-in-law Rhea Davis and Mike McQueen, sister-in-Law Debra McQueen, nieces Elizabeth McQueen and Katherine McQueen, great nieces Juno and Willow McQueen Sangar, great nephews Lute and Atley McQueen, cousins near and far, and a host of friends whom he loved dearly.

Although born in Fort Smith, as the son of a clergyman he lived in many small towns all across Arkansas. There he waded creeks, hunted snakes and quail, measured land for government allotments, and graduated from Dardanelle High where he made wonderful, lifelong friends. Along the way he began collecting stories.

While in the process of earning a Wildlife Management degree from Arkansas Tech, he took time to join the Army National Guard where he trained and became a fully certified medic. He enjoyed serving at Fort Sam Houston and Fort Polk, and there he gathered new stories.

After earning his degree, he worked in management at garden centers in Russellville, AR and Richmond, VA. Upon returning to Arkansas, he had a brief career in life insurance, followed by a 50-year career in real estate. He enjoyed working in real estate sales, management, and finally in home construction where his honesty, integrity, and craftsmanship made him a sought-after builder. Quick with a quip, he would refer back to his Wildlife Management degree from Tech, saying, “The only wildlife I ever managed was the men on the building crews.” All these endeavors provided grist for ever more stories.

He had a life-long love of the outdoors, and spent countless hours fishing and hunting with his son, grandson, and friends, or pulling a horse trailer out west to hunt in the wilderness. He was also a dedicated steward of the outdoors, serving as president of the Arkansas Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Foundation as well as working with friends at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to help better manage resources in Arkansas. Golf was another passion, and he loved playing with the group at Eagle Hill. Each venture became a source for still more stories.

He was extremely proud of his family, especially his son and grandson, and loved spending time with all of them and with his friends. They all loved it too, with everyone looking forward to his myriad of vivid, wonderful stories about his adventures and misadventures as he lived life full-throttle in his beloved state of Arkansas and points west. He was irrepressible and irreplaceable.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Ruebel Funeral Home on Markham. A graveside ceremony will be Monday, July 29, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park on Highway 5. Those who attend are encouraged to share their memories and remarks about George.
