Biography: Barbara Longstreth Mulkey died July 8th, 2024. Born December 3rd, 1933 in Pope County, Arkansas, she grew up in Little Rock, daughter of Nicholas N. Longstreth and Lucille Rainey Longstreth.

She is survived by her husband, Louis M. Mulkey, three sons, Dr. Louis Edgar (Eddie) of St. Albany, Vermont, his wife Karen and children, Nat and Noel; Bruce Leonard of Bentonville, AR, and children Atticus, Achilles, Demetrius, Aristotle, and Briseis; Woodrow Noel (Woody) of Little Rock, and his children Nicholas and Rachel.

She graduated from Little Rock High School, attended Texas Christian University for two years , and received a degree in journalism from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. While working on the campus newspaper, she was named "Outstanding Reporter." She did further study at the U of A in Little Rock and UCA in Conway and was certified to teach journalism and English.
For the three years her husband was in seminary, she was editor of the equine publication, "Who's Who In Horsedom" in Lexington, KY. For eleven years she edited a column, "Poetry Panorama" for the Arkansas/Louisiana Methodist newspapers. While living in Pine Bluff she was society editor and wrote a column "Minute Meditation" for the weekly Pine Bluff News.

In Little Rock she was for a several years director of the Pulaski County Unit of the American Cancer Society and later a substitute teacher in the Little Rock School District. Before retirement she taught for five years at the Florence Crittenden Home in Little Rock, and after retirement she edited and produced a poetry journal "Tradition" for several years.

She was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church following her husband's retirement from 35 years in the United Methodist ministry, during which he served several churches in Arkansas.

For over 65 years she was a member of the Arkansas Pioneer Branch of the National League of American Pen Women, having become the youngest member in the country at 17. She served more than once as branch and state president, and for nine years was director of the Arkansas Writers' Conference. She was also a member of the River Market Branch of Poets' Roundtable of Arkansas and served a term as PAA state president.

 Author of three books of poetry, "The Sun's Still On", "Flowers in Their Season", and “Sharing Christmas”. She also wrote four other books, a 365-page daily devotional book, "With Glory and Honor", a collection, "ESP: Essays, Stories, Poems", a creative non-fiction work, "Be Careful What You Wish For", and a novel, “Hope Springs Eternal".
 
A private burial will be held at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church columbarium. Services under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
