Biography: Christopher David Vammen of Cammack Village, Arkansas, passed away on June 18, 2024.  Chris was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on July 14, 1983. Growing up, he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He achieved the Order of the Arrow in Boy Scout Troop 30.  He also held a black belt in martial arts. Chris graduated from Catholic High School for Boys in 2001. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree, Suma cum Laude, from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2005, and his Master of Science in Computer Science in 2007.

Chris is survived by his parents Reuel A. and Anna Nadine Vammen of Cammack Village; his grandfather Dr. Reuel E. Vammen of Texarkana, Texas; his two children, Katherine River Vammen and Alexander Martin Vammen of Little Rock, Arkansas; and his children’s mother, Brenda Fuller Vammen, his ex-wife.  His surviving aunts and uncles are Sue Trulock of Pine Bluff, Dr. David and Melinda Vammen of Texarkana, Arkansas; Mrs. Fostene Derr of Phoenix, Arizona;  retired Capt. Layne and Vali Smith, of Georgetown, South Carolina; Martin and Sondra Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and John and Lisa Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; plus several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his by his loving grandparents: Lynne Dickens Vammen, Rev. William Selven Smith, and Jean Rowland Smith.

He enjoyed swimming and playing with his children, which included basketball, backyard baseball, and playing video games.  He had a keen interest in astronomy and space exploration and was an avid reader.  Chris was a good son, father, and friend.  His belief was that working to help others was an essential part of life. He was a believer and follower of Christ and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted by Ruebel Funeral Home at 6313 West Markham St., Little Rock, Arkansas.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The service will be held Wednesday, June 26 at 11:30 am in the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel followed by a graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas, at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Stephen Moody of First Presbyterian Church, Little Rock will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Oaks Indian Mission, P.O. Box 130, Oaks, OK 74359, or to Catholic High School for Boys, 6300 Father Tribou St., Little Rock, AR 72205.
 
For those family and friends who are unable to attend the funeral, please know that a Celebration of Life for Chris will be held on Saturday, August 3. The place and time will be forthcoming.

Chris was my student at Catholic High, and an excellent one at that. His friendly, outgoing manner made him popular with classmates and his teachers as well. Ave atque vale, Chris!
