Biography: Gary Lynn Hall, age 68, of Roland, AR, died at home peacefully January 20, 2024 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester Hall; brother, Denis Hall; and wife, Tammy Lock Hall. He is survived by his second wife, Meredith; his son, Hunter Hall (Lindsey); two grandchildren—Miles and Lennox; his mother, Virginia Hall; brother-in-law, Bo Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary was born and raised in Little Rock and attended Hall High. He began dating his future wife,Tammy, when they were both teenagers. Their marriage was a true partnership as they worked together at the family business, Tru-Fab—a sheet metal fabrication business—and in raising their son, Hunter. As a family they loved traveling to the beach and skiing out west. They were married for 37 years before Tammys death in 2014.

Gary was lucky to later find love a second time with Meredith Hawkins. The two self-professed bird nerds spent their time together in nature,
living in a log cabin overlooking Lake Maumelle and Pinnacle Mountain; caring for their cats, dog, chickens, and gardens; and traveling out west to Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming whenever they could get away.

Gary loved the outdoors. He loved scuba diving and fly fishing for bonefish in the Cayman Islands, the Florida Keys, and Turks & Caicos. But his favorite fly fishing of all was for striped bass (stripers!) on Lake Quachita.

In addition to his love for the outdoors, Gary was an inventor and craftsperson. He loved the challenge of fabricating parts for use in various industries throughout the world and in later life was a self taught blacksmith/forger, who made incredible knives and other utilitarian objects. Lucky is the person who was gifted one of Gary’s beautiful knives. He was also an international champion wildfowl wood carver, who made wonderful lifelike, life-sized figures of owls and other wild birds. He was a true artisan.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great nieces, playing games with the younger ones and visiting with his grandson, Miles.

A visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 on Wednesday, January 31 with a funeral service the following day, February 1 at 2:00. Both are at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham, in Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Arkansas Hospice, or Little Rock Animal Village. Please share your memories of Gary on his obituary page at RuebelFuneralHome.com

I didn't know Gary very well but every time l had the opportunity to visit he was such a lovely man. I am so fortunate to have a beautiful piece of art that he made me. I will always treaure it. His artwork was amazing, his wood carving so life like you could
see that he put his heart and soul in it. Meredith, Gary was so blessed in having a wonderful loving wife who encouraged his creativity and nurtured him during his illness. He will truly be missed by all who were part of his life. My prayers of peace, strength and love for you and his family.
Rest in peace Gary.

My only regret in meeting Gary was that it did not happen sooner. Gary was that rare person who was competent, knowledgeable, skilled, generous, kind, inventive and creative. Above all, he was a superb artist and craftsman. Whether it be painting, carving, engraving, repousse, woodwork, blacksmithing, knife making, fly tying, sculpting, or sheet metal work, Gary could do it all at the highest level of skill. He has been a huge inspiration for me and I think about him and his work every time I go into my own shop. His passing is truly a loss for us all.

My sincere sympathy and prayers for comfort go out to Meredith, Hunter and Aunt Pearline! Gary was a sweet soul, never wanting attention. He was a great artist! We came from a huge family of 53 cousins. Gary was among the younger ones, I am in the middle and I loved Gary. After Uncle Chester passed, he was quick to bring Aunt Pearline (Virginia) to family events. His last concern relayed to me was his Mom! He did all he could for her! I am lucky to have a treasure of one of Gary's talents - a duck drawing that is so good you feel like you could touch the feathers! I hate that Lennox isn't going to get to grow up with Gary! May God Bless Gary's family as they lay him to rest!

Gary Hall, like no one I have ever known before. For those of you that have known Gary for many years, I envy you. Spending even a short time with Gary showed me that he is someone that has the unique ability to have technical expertise and the head to run a successful business, to have in depth understanding of just how things work and how to design for function and how to incorporate his talent for the art into his many projects all the while keeping a positive outlook. His enthusiasm appeared to be contagious. He wasn’t afraid to tackle blacksmithing and he approached this like he did his other challenges with the same energized enthusiasm he had for life and family and friends. After doing all he could to take care of family, I think Gary looked at death without fear but as another adventure. Gary Hall, like no one I have ever known before. I wish I could have met him earlier, but even in the short time, he certainly made a difference in my life. Thanks to you Gary and your entire family.
