Biography: Dr. David Charles Bauman died on Friday, December 29, 2023. He was born in Little Rock on June 22, 1950 and deeply loved the city and people of Little Rock throughout his life. In his 73 years, he mended countless people's hearts as a physician and cardiologist with the Little Rock Cardiology Clinic and co-founder of the Arkansas Heart Hospital, and as a multi-instrument musician and band leader of the B-Flats and as the Director of Temple B'nai Israel's Music Program for decades.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy and her children; his daughters Rabbi Katie Bauman (Adam Eckstein) and Dr. Annie Bauman (Dylan White); his grandchildren Gracie, Mo, and Sammy Eckstein; and his brother and sister, Steve (Jill) Bauman and Merrill (Mike) Stern, his aunt Judy Grundfest, cousin and dear friend Suzi Davis, as well as beloved nieces, nephew, cousins, friends, bandmates, and healthcare colleagues.

He was predeceased by his parents Bobby and Bud Bauman and Katie and Annie’s mother Susan Forsyth Bauman.
He formed and led several bands throughout his life, including Jubilation and Albatross in New Orleans, and of course his beloved B-Flats here in Little Rock. He traveled the country playing bass and keyboard in the bands of nationally renowned Jewish musicians. He was honored several times throughout his life both for his years of excellence in medicine and, along with Kathy, their relentless commitment and inspired leadership of the Jewish community of Arkansas.

He will be remembered by those whose hearts and bodies he healed throughout Arkansas and their families, and by those for whom he provided the soundtrack of so many weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, parties and reunions, religious services, and most of all by his family and friends who so loved and admired him.

Funeral services will take place on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 1pm at Temple B’nai Israel, 3700 N. Rodney Parham Road, with Rabbis Barry Block and John Kaplan officiating.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Bauman Music Fund of Temple B’nai Israel, Henry S. Jacobs Camp, The American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.  May his memory always be a blessing. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

I am so sorry for your entire family's loss. David was a wonderful man. I recently visited with him in June at our Hall High School class reunion. He was the same generous, funny person I used to know in homeroom at Hall. He was my father's heart doctor as well. My dad truly enjoyed having him as his physician, and I would go with him often to see David. I know that David's life and contributions to his community will long be remembered. May God bless you all.

I just found out and I’m very saddened that David’s life has been ended so soon. You have my deepest sympathy, Kathy and family. I see from the obituary he didn’t have to make a choice between music and medicine. He did both, and apparently
very well. I’m happy for him about his life. I hope your grief will be brief, and that you all have a happy new year.

I am so very sad to read of David's passing. What a wonderful musician and person. My heartfelt condolences to Merrill and Steve, and all of the family. I am glad I had a chance to enjoy David's musical talent in March at the Class of 1970 Hall High reunion - he knew how to get everyone out on the dance floor! He will be missed by many.

It is with a very deep sense of saddness that I learned of David’s passing. Our times in the SoFTY summer camp
Band and then later as Jacobs Camp physicians bring back many fond memories. Laurie and I send our prayers and hopes that the pain of his sudden absence will become softened over time by the fond memories that he helped to create for all who were fortunate to know him!

rabbi Katie,

Carol and I are so sad to hear of your loss. The picture of him in the obit is exactly the way I had remembered him. May your fond memories of him throughout the years help neutralize the sadness that I am sure you and your family are experiencing. Peace

I am heartbroken for the entire Bauman family, and for our community. David was a dear friend and an important part of my life in so many ways. I will miss all the fun we had together at my special family events where he provided music, at our times together at the Hot Springs cottage, and just friendship and good times in general. I pray for strength and healing for everyone.
