Biography: Mary McGeorge entered into eternal rest Monday, November 27, 2023 at the age of 89. She was born January 10, 1934 in St. Louis, Mo to Joseph and Filomena Meoli. The last of seven children, she attended Roe Elementary and then Southwest High School. Over the years, Mary became a diehard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She, along with her friend Joanna Spanos, would wait after games hoping to get an autograph.
After high school, Mary went to work in a shoe factory. During her time there, she began a correspondence with a serviceman, Bill McGeorge. He came to St. Louis to meet her, and they began dating. Before long, they were married and began to grow their family. Mary had three children…Michael, Karen, and Linda. All three would learn early on how important they were in their mother’s life. They lived in St. Louis until 1969 when a job opportunity took them to Little Rock, AR.
While starting a new life in Little Rock, Mary fell in love with bowling. She never learned how to drive, but fortunately for her, Park Plaza Lanes was within walking distance from their home. She developed many friendships through her time bowling that would last the rest of her life. Sadly, Mary and Bill would divorce, resulting in Mary having to go back to work. She found employment with Liberty Mutual and was a claims processor for many years. As her children grew older and began moving out, she proved to be very self-sufficient. One of her greatest gifts, was her cooking. Mary loved cooking for her family for Sunday dinners and special occasions. It hurt her so much when she moved into a nursing home, knowing that cooking was no longer going to be a part of her life. She also loved playing card games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She continued to play UNO with them into her final weeks of life…and never hesitant to drop a Draw Four on you!
Mary was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mom, grandma, and memaw. Her family was her life and she always made sure you knew it. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Filomena, siblings Rocco, Carmella, Angelina, Dominic, Dominic, and Victoria. She is survived by her son Michael, daughters Karen and Linda, grandchildren Keith (Nichole), Kyle, Brandon, and Sarah, and great grandchildren Hudson and Cooper.
