Biography: Martha Virginia Ivey Penick, age 84, of Little Rock, died November 14, 2007. She was born in Hermitage, Arkansas on November 6, 1923. She was a graduate of Hermitage High School and St. Vincent School of Nursing. She was a staff nurse and supervisor at St. Vincent Infirmary, later becoming president of the Little Rock District. She was a member of Trinity Epsicopal Cathedral where she held the position of President of Episcopal Church Women from 1970 – 1971. She was a member of the Fine Arts Club, the Country Club of Little Rock, Museum of Science and Natural History, Aesthetic Club, Little Rock Departmental Club, Wednesday Book Club, and was a 24-year member of the board of the Florence Crittenton Home. She was also a volunteer with the Arkansas Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcellus Carroll and Nancy Lee Petty Ivey; her husband, James H. Penick, Sr., who died in 1975. Survivors include her daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Ivey Penick Parra of Alexandria, Virginia; a son, James Carroll Penick and wife Susan of Little Rock; step-son, Edward M. Penick and wife Evelyn of Little Rock; a brother, Bobby Gene Ivey and wife Jeannette of Snyder, Texas; and grandchildren, Frances and Sarah Penick of Little Rock, and eight more grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be made to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, or the Virginia Penick Nursing Endowment at UAMS.
