Biography:

Mary Virginia Smith Davis, born to Mary Virginia and Eugene Granville Smith on July 29, 1935, died peacefully at home in her sleep on September 13, 2023.  She is survived by her three children, John M. Davis IV, Dana Davis Smith, Eugene Emerson Davis, her brother Raymond E. Smith, eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

“Mary Gene” lived for her children, her faith, and her country.  She was a beacon of light
to us all.

A graveside service will be held for her immediate family on Thursday,
September 28, 2023.

To John, Dana, and Gene -- my deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. She was my first friend when I came to Little Rock in 1959. Our mothers-in-law (LaVonne and Cornie Terry) were so close and they knew that Mary Gene and I would have a great deal in common. It saddened me that after she returned from living near Dana on the East Coast, she didn't want to renew our relationship, although I tried. Now we can never do so, but I hope you know that we were once extremely fond of each other. She was a beautiful and caring woman; I know that you and your families will miss her deeply.
