Biography: Laurie Townsend Rosenwasser, 78, of Windsor Lakes, Houston, Texas, passed away on September 16, 2023. She was born in Houston, Texas to her parents, Jack and Kat Townsend, and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the Heights (Westover Hills Presbyterian Church served by Rev. Richard B Hardie).
Laurie attended Little Rock Public Schools and was a member of the Hall High School class of 1963. She attended the University of Arkansas and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. After attending the University of Arkansas, Laurie took a trip around the world which was the beginning of a life- long interest in travel. Her first career was a travel agent in Austin, Texas, after she graduated from University of Texas.
Life took a new turn when Laurie became a mother. Following the birth of her sons in Houston, she transitioned into the field of healthcare by enrolling in nursing school. She successfully completed her education as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and dedicated eight fulfilling years to nursing.
For more than three decades, Laurie lived her dream life on a ranch in Waller, Texas, where she raised racehorses. She was proud of her decades of work on the ranch; training, birthing, and raising of over 200 racehorses. A passionate animal lover, Laurie captivated friends and family alike with vivid stories about her equine adventures and the various dogs and cats that she nurtured over the years.
In 2021, Laurie relocated to the Houston area, where she found immense joy in tending to her garden and yard. She loved her home, once expressing in a high school reunion update, “I can see the moon and sun rise from my bedroom and the sunset from my front yard over the lake’s water fountains. I am a lucky girl.”
Described as a quintessential Aries, Laurie exuded friendliness, wit, intelligence, and beauty. Her greatest joys were her family—especially her two sons, David and Mark, and her grandchildren. David and his wife Kristina reside in Houston, TX and are parents to Gabriella, Catalina, and Alessandra. Mark and his wife Adorys live in Bronxville, NY and are parents to Evan and Jason.
Laurie's life was a rich tapestry of love, adventure, and enthusiasm. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Laurie is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Kat Townsend, and her brother, John Townsend, beside whom she will be laid to rest.
A graveside service, open to family and friends, will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:00 am at Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, Arkansas. The service will be coordinated by RuebelFuneralHome.com
