Biography:

Robert L.R. Hankins, 88, died peacefully at home on September 8, 2023.

He was a minister in the United Methodist Church where his work spanned seven decades. His influence, wit, wisdom, compassion, incredible patience, and quiet strength were felt by many far beyond the nine churches he served. His passion for service was exemplified by the number of work trips he led over the years, particularly to the Appalachian region where he was raised.  A tall man with a huge heart, he was involved in Great Dane rescue for the second half of his life.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, LeRoy and Florence Talbert Hankins, his siblings, Iva Lee and James Hankins and his daughters, Linda and Lisa Hankins.  In addition to extended family. He is survived by his first wife of 61 years, Carolyn Hankins, daughter Donna, grandsons Liam, Jonathan and Evan, his older brother, John Paul Hankins (Willaine) and his faithful dog Hannah.

A visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, from 11:00 - Noon.  Burial will take place in Emory, VA at a later date.  If you would like to honor his legacy, consider making a donation to Henderson Settlement in Frakes, KY or Whiteville UMC, Whiteville, NC. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
