Biography:

Elaine Ashley McCutcheon passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Elaine was born November 21, 1954, as the second daughter of Hugh and Helen Ashley in Harrison, Arkansas. Elaine grew up with her two sisters, Gussi and Robin, working in the family music store. She was a cheerleader at Harrison High School, and later at the University of Arkansas, where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. After graduating with a degree in Home Economics, she went to work at Baptist Health in Little Rock, where she remained for 30+ years, retiring in 2018 from her role as Director of Food Services.

Throughout her life, Elaine always had a smile, a hug, and a kind word of encouragement, constantly putting others before herself. She loved spending time in nature and created decades of memories camping, kayaking, and taking river rafting adventures across the nation, often including her nieces and nephews. Elaine was completely devoted to her parents, and was very involved in helping them manage Ashley Music Store. She spent every weekend at the family farm with her mom and dad as long as they were still physically able to meet her there. Elaine was a bright light with a beautiful heart, who left a positive impact on everyone she met.

Elaine leaves behind her long-term partner, Ken Holmes, sisters Gussi Causey and Robin Howell, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved and will miss her very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Helen Ashley, husband, Pat McCutcheon, and nephew, Brandon Ashley Causey.

A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held Sunday, July 30th, 2:00-400pm, at Ruebel Funeral Home, 6313 W. Markham Street in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, LR Compassion Center, or your favorite charity. Arrangements under the direction of Ruebelfuneralhome.com

Ashley girls, I am thinking of you and sending my sympathy and friendship. At this time, I recalled many of the happy memories of growing up on Eagle Heights. Sledding in the snow, sharing a watermelon in the hot summer evenings, drinking cold treats from Tupperware cups, movies on Saturday afternoons....Bessie and Paris, Johnny Johnson and some of our other friends. Take time to find comfort in your many family memories! JR

As I recall her from the U of A, Elaine was unfailingly pleasant and unassuming. My sincere sympathies to her loved ones.
