Biography:

DANIEL TIMOTHY (Tim) GREER, 61, of Little Rock, passed away June 4, 2023 at his home.

Tim was born in Memphis on January 18, 1962 to Dan and Rachel (Flora) Greer.  He grew up in Memphis and attended Presbyterian Day School and Memphis University School where he graduated in 1980.  He professed his faith in Christ at an early age and attended Bellevue Baptist Church throughout his childhood.  He attended Baylor University and University of The Ozarks, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology.  He also pursued post-graduate studies in Environmental Biology and Ecology at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.

Tim enjoyed a diverse career as a Marine Biologist, working for several State and Federal organizations.  He conducted fishing oversight and research on fish populations and production in the North Pacific and Bering Sea.  He went to sea from ports in Taiwan and Japan on foreign vessels where he assessed the impact of driftnet use on marine mammals, birds, fish, and turtles.

Tim’s joy in life was his art.  He showed artistic skill early and became an accomplished private painter.  He loved to paint nature scenes and also created cartoons.  His artistic skills helped sustain him throughout his life.  Everywhere he went, he easily made friends, and his friends meant the world to him.  He was known as a kind-hearted man.  He loved music, especially guitar music.  His absolute favorite tunes were found in ‘70s Southern Rock and Rhythm & Blues.  Even after his health deteriorated, he continued his art and music.  Very recently, he wrote a song that he titled “Precious” in honor of his newborn grand-niece.

Tim leaves his sister, Janet G. Crawford, and brother-in-law, Phillip Crawford, of Waco, Texas; his nephew, Dr. Phillip Crawford III, his wife, Paige Tyler Crawford, and their “Precious” daughter, Cora Grace, of Memphis as well as numerous Greer and Nester cousins from Alabama and Mississippi.  He also leaves dear friends, Fook C. Lee (William) and his wife, Ana, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and his biologist friend, David Westbrook, of Little Rock, Arkansas as well as many others.

Tim was preceded by his parents, Rachel F. Greer and Dan B. Greer.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, June 16 at Ruebel Funeral Home 6313 West Markham St. in Little Rock.  Additionally, a visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17 in Memphis at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 5668 Poplar Ave. with visitation at 1:00 PM and a memorial service at 2:00 PM, with interment immediately following.

The family requests that any memorials for Tim be sent to Memphis University School, the University of the Ozarks, or the charity of your choice.
