To the Moers Family: Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I am one of the attorneys for the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH). Dory was an integral member of what is regarded as the best Tuberculosis Control Unit in the United States if not the world. I have been told that one of the reasons that Dr. Joseph (Joe) Bates, the legendary medical school professor and world renown infectious disease expert, came to work at ADH was to have the opportunity to work with Dory. Her unmatched skills as a TB and infectious disease nurse was equaled by her ability to persuade and connect with her patients. Many of her patients were homeless and destitute with difficult personalities. Many of her patients were not rule-followers so they did not want to adhere to the TB medicine regimen. Dory was almost always able to convince them that it was best for them to take their TB medications which sometimes meant weeks or months of treatment. She saved many lives and prevented others from being exposed and infected by TB. On the rare occasions when her persuasion was not totally successful she would contact ADH Legal for assistance with recalcitrant patients. It was a joy to work with her ! She was always cheerful and positive with that wonderful assuring smile of hers. The TB Unit (Dr. Stead, Dr. Bates, Dory and others) became world renown in the infectious disease community for their groundbreaking treatment and care of TB patients in Arkansas. Dory was a true Public Health Hero. May Dory Rest in Peace. Reg Rogers Arkansas Department of Health

I’m so sorry to hear about Dory. I worked with her in Public Health in Southwest Arkansas when I was a Communicable Disease Nurse Specialist and again in the Central Office, TB Program. I learned so much from Dory as a nurse and enjoyed a wonderful friendship as well. Prayers for you all in this time.
