Biography: Mildred Oldham Shumard, 100, of Little Rock died May 10, 2023. She was born December 29,1922, in Little Rock, AR., the daughter of the late Robert W. and Mattie Reeder Oldham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank N. Shumard, Jr., and her daughter, Sandra Shumard Ledbetter. She was a 1940 cum laude graduate of Little Rock High School, and probably the only student to receive her diploma, and a scholarship to Little Rock Junior College, from principal, John A. Larson, at her home while bedridden due to illness.
 
"Millie" was employed by the Arkansas Pediatric Clinic for over 40 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served twice as Trustee, on the church council, member of the Grace Sunday school class, and former member of the Faith Sunday school class.
 
She is survived by her son, Frank N. Shumard III, granddaughters, Mitzi Tiffee (Rob), Shannon Newby (Chadwick), Livvy Elise Ward, Talbot Cooley (Matthew), and Shay Mason (Patrick). She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Lawson and Fortner Tiffee, Blakely and Christian-Troy Newby, Kaylee, Elle and Lucas Ward, Joel and Johnny Cooley, and Will Pearson.
 
The funeral will be a private graveside service at Pine Crest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cast a Vision fund at Calvary Baptist Church, 1901 N. Pierce Street, Little Rock, AR 72207, Arkansas Hospice Foundation, or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

Bubba, I enjoyed the past 4 years with your mom. I know I was not supposed to have “favorites”, but Ms. Millie reminded me so much of my own grandmother that she was truly my favorite. She loved to fuss at me when I would print your pictures and show them to her but she always lit up to see where you were in the world…. I will miss her.. My sincerest condolences to you….

So grateful for memories of Millie’s smiles and her delightful stories, especially related to Central High and other historical places and events. She loved her family dearly and always welcomed her friends!
