Biography: Jane Satterfield Wilson was born on December 25, 1938, one of twin daughters, to Katherine and M. M.”Bush” Satterfield, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She died on April 23, 2023.
She is survived by her children, Mary Katherine Clark (John Rice), Darby Wallace (Bentley), one sister, Kay Tyler (Larry), one brother, M.M. “Twig” Satterfield (Peggy), two grandchildren Natalie Wallace Martin (Cody), Miller Vines Wallace, and three great-grandchildren John Parker Martin, Cade Wallace Martin, and Carson Sisco Martin, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog, Bo. One of five children, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Joyce and Joan.
In 1975, she was the first woman elected to the Conway City Council and served as alderman until 1978. She later worked on the Clinton for Governor campaign and served as the Director of Appointments for Boards and Commissions during the administration of then-Governor Clinton. She later worked as the Director of Personnel for the Arkansas Department of Transportation. She attended Conway High School and Arkansas State Teachers’ College (now the University of Central Arkansas).
In her younger years, she was a talented golfer and tennis player. She was always an avid reader. In high school, she was chosen Miss Wampus Cat. Her dinner parties were always entertaining and her black-eyed peas and cornbread were legendary. Friends and family relied heavily on her advice for choosing paint colors, furniture placement, and interior design style. They will miss their weekly “prayer” meetings with Jane.
A lifelong yellow-dog Democrat, she supported countless candidates in their attempts to improve the lives of Arkansans. Memorials may be made to the James Bridges Performing Arts Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Arkansas, the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, or the Democratic Party of Arkansas.
