Biography: The Rev. Hap Hoffman, the love of my life, passed away peacefully at home on April 2nd, 2023. Hap was born on December 14, 1934, in Cheyenne, Wyoming to the late Rev. Edgar Henry and Pearl Hoffman.
Hap and Barbara have been married for over 50 years. They built a family and traveled the world sharing their generous spirit with friends and strangers alike. Hap received his BS from the University of Denver in 1956 and launched a career as a successful business executive for INA/CIGNA. Upon retirement, Hap felt called to share his love for Christ with others. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he graduated from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas in 1996. In his heart, he wanted to serve the smaller churches in rural Arkansas. He served as Curate at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Vicar at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Stuttgart, and Rector at Grace Church in Pine Bluff. Known as “Father Hap,” he began to minister to prison inmates at Tucker Prison in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They loved Hap’s kindness, guidance, and gentle demeanor, as did everyone.
Hap is survived by his wife, Barbara whom he adored and cherished and his sister Millie Burt. Hap lovingly raised his three children Carey Hoffman of Memphis, Tennessee, Mark (Cherie) Hoffman of Austin, Texas, and Tina (David) Ledbetter of Dallas, Texas. He loved and spoiled his four grandchildren Lauren (Jackson) Bueno, Anna Grace (Brandon) Terrell, and Jake and Katie Hoffman along with his great-grandchildren Cade Bueno and Camden Terrell.
He will be enormously missed and always hold a place in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church or Camp Mitchell. The Service of Christian Burial will be Friday afternoon, April 14th at 2 o’clock at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 20900 Chenal Parkway. A reception will follow at St. Margaret’s. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
I will hold Hap in Bamy heart forever. He was a true steady friend and I have such fond memories sharing life with him from our first meeting in Scotland enjoying some Bell's scotch and Glen Morangie to taking an almost silent retreat in New Mexico monastery with a little fly fishing thrown in.
Memories I will hold in my heart until I see him again in spirit with all the saints, including Dorrie.
Warm regards,
Brian Keller
