Biography: Dr. Charles Kenneth Born, 79, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, March 15th at his home, after an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma.
 
A 1962 graduate of El Dorado High School, he earned a B.S. degree from the University of Arkansas Medical Center College of Pharmacy in 1967; an M.S. in Pharmacology in 1970 and a Ph.D.in 1972, both from Purdue University.
 
Dr. Born began teaching at Auburn University College of Pharmacy in the fall of 1972, and remained for 17 years. He returned to Little Rock to teach UAMS pharmacy students in 1990, and became faculty advisor to the Academy of Students of Pharmacy (ASP). Under his direction, membership increased greatly and the UAMS ASP chapter gained national prominence.
 
He was honored to be voted Teacher of the Year numerous times by the students at both institutions.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl January Born; three children, Scott (Susie) Born, of Marietta, GA, Jim (Anna) Born and Carol Born, all of Little Rock; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Carol (Johnny) Smith, of Stamps, AR; and a niece and nephew.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Melba Collins Born; sister, Ann Graham; and one great grandchild.
 
Charles will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness, his wisdom, his sense of humor, his love for teaching and those he taught and the enjoyment of an annual camping trip to Yellowstone or Glacier National Park.
 
No service will be held at this time, but there will be a celebration of his life this summer at Maumelle Park at a time to be announced, where sharing of “Doctor Born” stories will be encouraged and appreciated. If you wish to be notified, please respond to charleskbornmemorial@gmail.com

1997 UAMS graduate. I look back with fondness for Dr. Born, he gave a human touch to the process which was greatly appreciated!
