Biography:

On February 14, 2023 a wonderful human being went to be with the Lord in His eternal kingdom.

Laurie Jane Newman Guyton was born October 8,1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Dr. William Vernon Newman and Leona Glover Newman. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son William Ashley Wood. She is survived by her husband Herbert H. Guyton III, son, Roland Steele of Los Angles, CA, a stepdaughter Heather Guyton (Jon) Lawrence, and three grandchildren Karlie, Kendall and Wesley Lawrence of Merritt Island, Fl., and two brothers William Vernon Newman Jr. of Little Rock and Lee Glover Newman of Russellville AR.

Laurie was a loving, compassionate person who to a large degree personified the nine Fruits of the Spirit- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and temperance with humility and a deep love of God. In addition to mother and spouse she maintained a busy and productive life in the workforce. She graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1964 with a BA in English. She was a special needs teacher, an employee at the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, executive secretary, co-founder and owner of a multi-location business, hospice volunteer and at the age of 48 decided to go to nursing school. She received her RN from Marymount University in 1993 and was a nurse in several doctors offices and medical facilities until retiring in 2012 from the Veterans Administration. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Little Rock.

There will be a memorial service for family only at Ruebel Funeral Home on Monday February 20th, 2023. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice, Alzheimer’s research, American cancer Society, Baptist Children’s Home, or any charity of your choice in her name.
