Biography: Rebecca Frances Paulk Sanders passed away December 29, 2022, at the age of 75 in Little Rock. She lived at Woodland Heights for several years and made many friends there. She was being attended by the Woodland Heights Assisted Living Staff and Arkansas Hospice at the time of her death.

Rebecca was born on November 28, 1947, in Conway, AR. She graduated from Conway High School and went on to obtain Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Spanish from Hendrix and UCA. She taught Spanish for several years at Parkview High School in Little Rock, left teaching to become an accountant and worked for several firms, then returned to teaching Spanish for the AR Department of Education Distance Learning Center until her retirement. She is remembered fondly as a wonderful, creative teacher by hundreds of students and as a valuable colleague by those with whom she worked.

She wed Herman Sanders in 1969 and was married fifty years until his passing in 2020. Together, they loved and had great pride in their son Ben as they encouraged him through high school and on to two degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They considered Ben their greatest accomplishment and were so proud of his subsequent successful career and his beautiful family.

Rebecca was active in her church, where she served as treasurer. She also volunteered many years with the IRS VITA program, helping people file their taxes. In addition, Rebecca served as a liaison and interpreter for the Hispanic community, to help new arrivals obtain medical and other needed services.

She made friends wherever she went and was always available to offer a helping hand to those who needed it. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice; in college she played guitar and sang in a folk group. She will always be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, and her extraordinarily generous, loving spirit.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde A. and Delle Dodson Paulk, her sister Alice Ann, and her husband Herman. She is survived by her son Ben, daughter-in-law Alison, grandsons Evan and Miles, brother Dr. Clyde D. Paulk (Margie), sister Molly Paulk Brasher (Russell), nieces Beth Paulk and Amy Brasher, and nephew Jonathan Brasher (Melanie). In addition to her immediate family, she will be missed greatly by a host of other relatives and friends.

At Rebecca’s request, a joint memorial service for her and Herman will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home in Little Rock, AR, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

I loved her, but I never saw her. We met on Ancestry.com about 5 years ago and she loved me and welcomed me as a cousin saying " you can't have too many cousins". God kept her for too short of a time. But I know that she spread joy everywhere she went . She will be missed. Love and prayers for the rest of the family.

Dear Ben, Dr. Clyde, Molly and Family,

I am so saddened by Becky's passing. Becky was one of my best friends at CHS and maid of honor at my first wedding in 1968. She was smart, sweet and a total failure at trying to teach me to play the guitar!!! We reconnected several years ago on Facebook!

The heavenly choir is blessed to have Becky join!

My deepest condolences,
Carol Schwarzlose Johnson, CHS '65
