Biography: Henry Alfred (Rusty) Barham III died peacefully on September 9, 2022, at age 66, after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Rusty was born in Bastrop, LA, on October 17, 1955, to the late Ann Heres and Henry Alfred Barham, Jr.

He was a graduate of Subiaco Academy and received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Louisiana State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He received a Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University School of Law and went on to practice law for 39 years.  For most of his legal career, Rusty was engaged in the banking industry, serving as In-house Counsel or Executive Regulatory Counsel to, among others, Whitney National Bank of New Orleans where he was employed for eighteen years.  Until shortly before his death, he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel to Evolve Bank & Trust, headquartered in Memphis, TN.

Rusty was rightfully proud that every bank he served, either as Regulatory, Compliance or General Counsel, was left in a better position than when he arrived due to his efforts and those of his team at each bank.

Rusty is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jeanne-Marie Zeringue Barham, and their children, Caroline Emilie-Jeanne Barham and Henry Alfred Barham IV.  Rusty was a devoted husband and father who loved his family beyond measure and worked tirelessly, even in his final days, to ensure their happiness and wellbeing.

Survivors include his beloved sisters, Pamela David Harris (Michael), Claire Barham Mayer (Scott), and Emilia Barham McCue (Robert), his father-in-law, Wayne G. Zeringue, his sisters and brothers-in- law, Cheri Zeringue Mahoney (Jim), Amy Zeringue Bogusz (John), Wayne G. Zeringue, Jr. (Susie) and Gary F. Zeringue, as well as nieces, nephews and friends, including life-long friends from his childhood in Bastrop.

In addition to his parents, his sister Peggy Barham Smith and his mother-in law, Jeanne Escousse Zeringue predeceased him.

Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Little Rock, AR on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 1030 a.m., with the memorial mass immediately following at 11:30 a.m.. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, LA.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Subiaco Academy, 405 N. Subiaco Ave, Subiaco, AR, 72865, or St Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi St., Little Rock, AR 72207. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

Rusty was one of the best clients I ever worked for. He was always a trusted partner, but most importantly, he embodied serving and doing right by others. He is sorely missed and my prayers are with the family.

Jeanne, I’m so sorry. As one of those lifelong friends, I have to say Rusty was far too young to die and you are far too young to be a widow. Much love to you annd everyone in his family.
Love,
John Hill

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked for a number of years as outside counsel with Rusty when he was in house with Whitney. Rusty had the rare combination of intelligence, humility, and good humor. He was a true gentleman and a great lawyer and person. My prayers are with all of you.

I'm so sorry to learn of Rusty's passing. We grew up together and were members of the same church. We visited at the last Bastrop High School class reunion (We have always invited many besides just the graduated seniors). My prayers include Rusty's family.

Prayers to the family. Rusty and myself were childhood friends growing up in Bastrop. We both attended the some church until we graduated high school. Rusty and myself along with another dear friend Mike Martin, had many adventures growing up in Bastrop. My sincere thoughts and prayers are with all the family that the hole in your hearts would be healed. Rusty, this is not goodbye but see you later.

My deepest sympathy to Jeanne, Caroline, Henry, Rusty’s sisters and all the family. As first cousins of the same age growing up in a small town Rusty was like my best friend from very early childhood right through high school. While Rusty and I were separated by distance most of our adult lives as we pursued careers and built families he was always close to my heart and in my thoughts but never more so than this last year. I will miss him greatly but have many happy memories to nourish my soul as I know you all do.

Jeanne,
We were all so sad to learn of Rusty's death. When I heard, warm memories of our days on Forest came flooding back and how the Barham family embraced us and made us feel so welcome. I'll never be able to say thank you enough for your kindness. You, Caroline and Henry are in our prayers during this difficult time. Rusty was such a great guy, and we're so very sorry for your loss.
Love,
Sandra, Joe, Joelle and Elizabeth Lorenzo

Hello - I have known Rusty for over 12+ years professionally. Rusty was always thoughtful in his approach and the impact decisions might have on other people. He particularly cared for the people that worked for him including consultants. I recall an incident at one of his banks where project celebration shirts were given to bank personnel. Rusty found out that one of his contractors who had worked really hard did not get one. Rusty immediately gave his jersey to the contractor acknowledging and thanking the contractor. This is just one of many examples of the gentleman that Rusty was. On a personal note, I always enjoyed my interactions with Rusty over the many meals we had together, talking about not only project items but his perspectives on world events etc.. We will miss Rusty! My sincere condolences to the family.

I had the pleasure to work with Rusty at Whitney in the 90s and he was such a great person and attorney. I am much better off today for knowing him. May he rest in peace and I will pray for him and his family in this difficult time.
