Biography: It is with great sadness that Joe Andrew Vogel, 39 of Little Rock, passed away August 18, 2022.  Andrew was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.  If you knew Andrew, you knew his drive and exactly what was on his mind.  He did not mince words, he spoke his mind, and he lived life to the fullest.

Andrew will be missed most by his family; parents Lu Anne and Robert Vogel, brother Robby Vogel, sister-in-law Laura Beth Vogel, nephew Gus, niece Vivi, both whom he adored and loved.  His cousin who was like a sister Markie Newman High of Knoxville, TN was very special to him too. Andrew loved his service dog Camo so much.  He had Uncles Sam Vogel and Joe Newman and many other family members and friends who cared immensely for him.  He was predeceased by his maternal uncle Jim Newman.

Andrew was always an exceptional athlete.  He played on many traditional sports teams including baseball, soccer, and basketball.  He spent many years traveling on weekends with his parents to the various tournaments.  If you had the pleasure of being on his team, you knew he went all out to win.  If you faced him, you knew he was there to compete.  Thank you to all the coaches, teammates, and parents who were part of his life.

As a kid, Andrew loved nontraditional sports as well, such as rollerblading and skate boarding.  How many 10-year-olds go to a welder to get their own rail made to practice on at home?  He was dedicated and loved the people sports brought into his life. Thank you to all who looked over the little guy at the skate park over the years. You treated him like one of your own and a brother.  It was appreciated and did not go unnoticed.

Andrew also enjoyed wakeboarding and snowboarding.  He played golf, pool, bowling, cards, etc., whenever he could get a game, he was ready.  Anything he could do to keep competitive and busy.

At the age of 16, Andrew was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.  It was a devastating diagnosis to him.  He struggled with this condition both physically and mentally for the rest of his life.  Andrew fought the disease bravely every day, now he no longer must fight that battle.

Andrew was in Florida at the time of his death while checking on one of his investment properties.  He was very proud of the properties he owned and managed.  It brought him great joy to research other markets, and Florida was special to him.
Andrew was born on November 26, 1982.  He was excited about his upcoming 40th birthday and spending time with his family over the upcoming holidays. He loved a great meal.  He loved a good time.  He lived life to the fullest.  We are sad he is gone.  He is loved and will be missed.

A service will be held Friday, Augst 26th at 3:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church in Little Rock.  A celebration of his life will follow from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Country Club.  If you cannot make either, enjoy a Budweiser or glass of good red wine in his honor, and tell a fun story about him.  If you would like to make a donation in his honor, please consider donating to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, JDRF 105 West Park Dr. #415, Brentwood, Tennesee 32027,

Lu Anne,
Jim and I were very saddened to hear of Andrew's passing. I have been thinking of Chad and Andrew's adventures in life and growing up. They left this earth so early in their lives. As I reflect on Chad's passing I am reminded of a quote by Rose Kennedy....."It has been said time heals all wounds. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone."
We are thinking of you and Robert that you have peace in the days ahead. Sending healing prayers and comforting hugs.

Lu Ann and Robert,....the Arnold family is so saddened on your loss. It seems not that long ago that you coached Andrew and Robert on the basketball court; I recall Lu Ann's excitement on Andrew scoring two; the Arnolds will always cherish those times around Andrew and you guys. About a year ago, Robert and I spotted Andrew checking out at a Kroger grocery, we basically stopped the line in talking of old times. Andrew really made me feel good by his genuinely engaging conversation. I sensed a loving, kind soul in Andrew and if I can see that, I know our Lord and Savior does also; again, our saddened hearts are with you all.

Lu Anne and Robert: I’m so sorry! I watched Andrew closely from the first grade (age 6) excel in 4 different sports (I coached him in 2)! He was VERY talented, and he was indeed super-competitive! I encountered Andrew again a few years ago at a local wedding; and he was enjoying being with his friends that night! Thank you both for bringing him into our lives. Charlie Wood

Andrew and I grew up together, we went on snow-skiing trips as kids/ teenagers. We had lost touch over the years however, we had reconnected within the last year and he called me often to check on me and make sure that I was doing ok and just to talk about life. Our dads grew up next door to eachother as kids and my dad shared stories with Andrew and I that we had never heard recently. Andrew was very protective of his friends and even if I didn’t like what he had to say, I listened because I knew it came from a good place, because he genuinely cared. The last couple of times we spoke he was living life and doing well and sounded happier than I remember in a long time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Vogel family.

Love the man like a brother, my twin boys called him, Uncle Andrew and I can’t remember how many golf balls they hit together at, Fayetteville CC. He was a man, a myth, and a freakin’ legend!
