Biography:
Mary Ann Butcher Brown, born March 14, 1938, left us on June 29, 2022, exactly eight years to the day as her loving husband of 54 years, Gerry Brown. She was 84.
Mary Ann was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Seldon D. Butcher and Mildred D. Butcher, both deceased. Growing up, she enjoyed the company of two older brothers, W.C. Long (Bill) and Gene Butcher, both also deceased.
She attended Oklahoma City University with her husband, where she was very active in student life. A member of Alpha Chi Omega, Mary Ann was also treasurer of her class, as well as editor of the school yearbook, earning many awards and honors. She graduated with a Masters in Special Education.
Mary Ann had the patience of an angel, proven by her more than 20 years devoted to the Little Rock public school district as a special education, learning disabilities teacher. After retiring as a teacher, she enjoyed working at Et Cetera Gift Shop for many years… Although it was not work to her, it was fun.
One of her favorite activities, was playing the game of Mahjong. She enjoyed helping teach the game also, to members of Lifequest, an activities center for seniors.
She loved traveling with her husband, enjoying over 25 river boat cruises to many different countries.
Her other interests include reading and the love of gardening, becoming a member of Master Gardeners. To those who knew her, she had ten green thumbs. She also enjoyed cooking, although she was known to burn the biscuits from time to time.
Mary Ann created a loving home for her family and their friends. She is survived by her son, William Brown (Donna) of Jacksonville Florida, daughters Jennifer Brown of Little Rock and Heather Postema (Jake) of Norton Shores, Michigan and two grandchildren Will and Brianna Brown.
