Biography: Nell Phillips Allison, 78, of Fruitvale, Texas, joined her band of angels on March 7, 2022. Nell was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, on July 25, 1943. She graduated from Pine Bluff High School, attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College then transferred to Southern Methodist University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Nell married the absolute love of her life, Patrick Hobbs Allison, on August 22, 1964. This would be the beginning of a long-lasting, 58-year, beautiful marriage. Nell and Pat lived in Dallas, where she began her teaching career, moving to Grand Saline, Texas in 1978. Nell served on many boards, including the Grand Saline Salt Palace and the Grand Saline Public Library. She was a passionate advocate for reading, involved in her church and she volunteered eagerly for numerous organizations. Nell and Pat were blessed with raising two amazing sons, Hobbs and Will. They enjoyed numerous travel adventures, sporting events, the beach, the slopes, days at Sportsman’s Corner, hosting friends on Green Street, the BEAST and countless hours at the farm, which was known as their “Happy Place.” Nell always discovered ways to enrich her life, the life of her children and the lives of those around her.
Nell lived a life of love and spreading cheer wherever she went. Her family was her proudest accomplishment. She had an infinite love for her four grand-children, Phillips, Collier, Lilly Jayne and Paige, her daughters-in-law, Lauri and Erica, her sister Sue, her brothers-in-law Roy and Duke and all of her nieces and nephews: Roy III, Susan Lee, Brad, Gordon and Catherine Anne. She loved fancy Sunday lunches with friends, gardening, drip castles at Crystal Beach, chicken & noodles, Camp Pine Bluff with Taylor, chicken hash, lottery tickets, chili dog picnics at “Tyler State Park” on Hobwil Farm, education, playing games with her grandchildren, NCAA Final Four Brackets, crunchy (or burned, her family would say) chocolate chip cookies, late nights on the porch, the moon, Janice Joplin and a beautiful sunset. Nell, or Tick Tock, as she was known, was the glue that kept her loved ones always coming back for more….times with Tick Tock and Daddy Pat were priceless and loved by all.
Her family asks that the next time you are on the Bolivar Peninsula, on the backroads in Arkansas, cruising around Grand Saline or Fruitvale, Texas, smelling the roses, working in your garden, having a big fish or crab on your line, smiling at your grandchildren, that you look up and give a wink and remember how your life was made sweeter by knowing Nell.
Nell is preceded in death by her mother, Nell Oaks Phillips and her father William (Bill) Warden Phillips.
Nell is survived by her devoted husband, Patrick Hobbs Allison, loving children, Patrick Hobbs Allison, Jr. (Erica), William Phillips Allison (Lauri), grandchildren William Phillips Allison, Jr., Collier Hastings Allison, Lilly Jayne Allison and Paige Holloway Allison and her sister Sue Phillips Philp (Roy).
