Biography: Mary Kathryn Thomas Douglas was born in Little Rock on October 7th, 1942. The daughter of Henry Ash and Helen Marie Thomas, Kathy was a cherished member of her family and community. Her fiery disposition and genuine care for all living things made Kathy a joy to be around. Kathy lit up every room she walked into with her quick wit and warm smile and loved bringing people together.

In her younger years, Kathy was selected as a Trojan Beauty while enrolled at UALR. She was the perfect combination of beauty and brains. You could often find her playing the piano, playing golf with friends, snow skiing, spending time at the lake, fishing, or embracing her creative side. Kathy was a humble but talented painter, and an excellent cook that loved to entertain. In her late years, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, traveling and spending time with her beloved sister, Jane, at her farm in Kentucky, often accompanying her to horse races.

A woman of many hats, she opened and ran her own floral shop called The New Leaf in England, AR for years. There was not much she could not do if she set her mind to it. Upon moving back to Little Rock to be closer to her family, she went to work for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette where she met her late husband James Douglas. Kathy later went to work for the Arkansas Medical Board from which she retired. She was great at every endeavor she pursued.

Kathy passed peacefully in her sleep Thursday, January 27th, 2022. She and her first husband, Jack K. Davis are survived by their three children; Steve Davis, Deborah Davis (Tammy Crowder) and Laura Davis Hamilton; four grandchildren, Brittany Stanphill, Thomas Stanphill, Joseph K. Davis and Addy Jones; her sole Sister, Jane Lyon; two nieces, Karen Bailey and Ashley Jackson; and her two dogs that she loved dearly, Kipp and Allie. Kathy will be lovingly remembered for her strength to handle any obstacle that came her way with grace, and her genuine, loving and selfless sprit. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.  Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com

Prayers and condolences for the family. I was not fortunate enough to know Kathy but she sounds like a wonderful person, my mother also loved all living things. I am the granddaughter of John David Thomas (HA Thomas’s brother). My mother was Judy Ann Thomas, I remember her talking about Jane a lot when I was very young. I would like to make contact with other members of the family if possible. The funeral home has my permission to share my email address if anyone is interested.

She was one of the very smartest women I ever knew. She was a nurturing soul when I was young. She could create a vision and with her precision and care and make it come true. She loved her sister and always found time to enjoy her many friends. Now though there will be no need for worry about whether someone has enough or about what her birds orAllie and Kipp would do without her. She earned her right many times over and I’ve always known Moms compassion for life would see her through The Gates are open waiting for all those she’s loved and cherished in her life…to see her again joyful and pain free, and surrounded by those she’s always wanted to be with, her Dad and Mom, Grandpa and Grandma Thomas, Grandma and. Jeff Jeffries and Uncle Joe just to name a few… Until we are together again and In Heavenly perfection will I see you again my dear Mom., you will be missed but not forgotten. With All I am and ever hoped to be, your daughter, Laura.
