Biography: Charles Basil Whiteside IV died in his sleep at his home on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the age of 50.  He was born on December 6, 1971 in Little Rock, AR. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Charles B. Whiteside, Jr., Cindy Whiteside, Hutchison L. Ware, and Catherine C. Ware.

Charles is survived by his parents, Charles B. Whiteside III and Catherine “Cappy” Whiteside, his sister Carrie Whiteside Smalling (Mark), her children, Caitlyn E. Brandom and Charles H. Brandom, and his sons, Connor, Corbin, Cole, and Cade Smalling, his uncle John P. Whiteside, and his cousins Cindy Ann Hammerquist and John S. Whiteside.
Charles was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock.

He graduated from Central High School in Little Rock and attended UALR and UCA.  Charles was employed at CBW Properties, Inc. since 2003 after trying his hand at acting in Hollywood, CA for 5 years…his claim to fame was a 1999 AT&T Super Bowl commercial.

Charles had to deal with congenital health problems his entire life; in spite of that, he was known as a kind soul who unconditionally helped his friends and acquaintances that were in need or suffering themselves.

Charles loved to play tennis (even qualifying and competing in the USTA “Southerns” as a teenager). He also loved playing soccer and basketball and dominating the annual NCAA tournament bracket competition between his family. Charles was a life-long Razorback and Cowboys fan. He also loved to hunt and fish (especially at Pin Oak and Twin Cypress). Charles’s two best buddies/ “children” were his chocolate labs Kodi and Killer (who is named after his dear friend Jay Kilpatrick).  He was the very proud holder of the #3 “Lifetime License” issued by the Arkansas Game & Fish Foundation in 1987…and he could really call ducks!

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. with interment at Mt. Holly Cemetery.  The service can be viewed live online by going to, www.youtube.com/c/TrinityLittleRock  Pallbearers are Jason Bowman, Patrick Donovan, Joel Fox, Chris Grace, Michael Grobmyer, Wil Jackson, Padgett Mangan, Mark McLarty, Charles Roberts, Ty Spradlin, Damion Thompson, and John S. I was shocked and saddened at the news of Charles’ passing. While the loss of any family member is difficult to accept, the loss of a child is probably amongst the most grievous. As have often been observed: no one should have to have to bury his/her child.

Nothing we can say or do will fill your grief, however, I would hope you take comfort in the fact that Charles had a life “well lived”; that he most certainly made a huge difference though his life. Would we all be described at the end of our time on this earth.

May you and yours feel the grace and peace that only God can give in the days ahead. May it also be of some comfort that as long as he remains in your memories and heart in many ways he still resides with you.

Charles was beyond an awesome friend, and I will always remember him. Charles was there for me before and after my Dad passed away in 2019. My favorite memory of him was when he, LJ, Jay Kilpatrick and I went fishing. Jay set the hook in a large fish, but the fish got the better of Jay and took the rod and reel out of Jay's hands and into and the water. The rod and reel were gone, as was the fish. LJ quipped what kind of rookie @#$% was that? We all shared laughs. Rest in peace, my friend. My condolences go out to Charles' family and his other friends. Ty Spradlin

Charlie, Cappy and Carrie, Will always have fond and happy memory of Charles when we took a ACH trip to LA along with you and Cappy. Charles arranged all our dinning in LA through his friends. He had great time with us and loved being the go to guy in LA. I remember how happy he was and had a great time with us. Thinking of Charles and all of your family. Mack and Barbara
