Biography: Marilyn McGeorge Young, 69, of Little Rock, died Sunday, December 26, 2021, after a gentle, but decade-long decline caused by Alzheimer’s disease. She was born December 20, 1952, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Harvey and Patricia (Triplett) McGeorge. Marilyn married Hugh David Young on May 31, 1974, and they had four children: Russell, Rebecca, Patrick, and Stephen.
The foundation of Marilyn’s life was her faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and her greatest hope was that her children and grandchildren would share that faith. By God’s grace, she beautifully modeled steadfast, sacrificial love to her family. Marilyn’s humility, gentleness, and kindness were not simply natural attributes—they were fruits of the Spirit evident to all who knew her.
Family was Marilyn’s joy and treasure; her fondest memories involved times with her tight-knit family, both growing up with her parents and sisters in Pine Bluff and the decades in her adult life shared with David and their children. She loved to laugh and was known amongst family and friends for her infectious laugh and cheerful smile.
Marilyn enjoyed her years as an elementary teacher and was blessed to be an adult and children’s leader for many years at Community Bible Study. She always looked forward to the weekly preparation with other leaders, as well as the time with the Community Bible Study participants. Devout in prayer and worship, Marilyn cherished her time at St. Andrew’s Church and singing hymns with her family even into her final years.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Jane McGeorge Rhodes. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, David; four children, Russell (Annie Wright), Rebecca (Sharon Abraham Pulla), Patrick (Rachel), and Stephen (Julie); 14 grandchildren, Zoe Young, Nora Young, Lila Young, William Young, Hallie Young, Tyler Young, Caden Young, Marilyn Elisabeth Pulla, Jane Pulla, Corbin Young, Hugh Pulla, Brynn Young, John Patrick Young, and Leighton Young; and her sister, Anne McGeorge Nickerson.
The family is grateful for Marilyn’s faithful caregivers, Carolyn Bacot, Patricia Grayson, Diane Stevens, the late Mary Branch, and the other loving, caring support and encouragement she received from friends and hospice staff.
After a private burial, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 7, at St. Andrew’s Church, 8300 Kanis Rd., Little Rock, AR 72204, officiated by Rev. Canon Dr. Jon Shuler, Rev.
