Biography:

Billy Floyd (Bill) Sneed, age 75, died peacefully in his sleep on November 21, 2021, in his home in Little Rock. Bill was born September 10, 1946, in Batesville, the son of Floyd Sneed and Treva Walker Sneed.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Sharon K. Sneed. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Sneed of Batesville; his nephew, Robert Loggins of Batesville; his niece, Angel Carter of Jonesboro; his partner of 25 years, Mary Lee McHenry of Little Rock; her children, Fran McHenry Carter (Jimbo) of Little Rock, and Lisa McHenry White (Rich) of Chevy Chase, Md.; and their children, Casey Clare Carter of Little Rock, and Hannah, Charlie and Lee White of Chevy Chase, Md.

Bill owned and operated a successful construction business in the Little Rock area. He was a member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church and also attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Little Rock. He was a former Board Member of the Arkansas Foodbank. Perhaps most importantly, Bill was a devoted partner and a loyal and thoughtful friend and neighbor to so many over his lifetime. To know Bill was to become a part of his community.

A memorial service will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Arkansas Foodbank, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, or Presbyterian Village.

Dear Mary Ann Sneed and family and Mary Lee McHenry's family,

Our heartfelt sympathy for the sad loss of your beloved brother and uncle; and, to the McHenry family, for the sad loss of your beloved friend. As Bill's cousin--related through his mother, Treva Walker Sneed--Joan and I grew up in Melbourne next door to Bill's uncle and Treva's brother, Johnny Walker. Whenever Bill and his family would travel from Batesville to Melbourne, we were often invited to the Sunday meal with them, which Ester Walker would make. Ester also provided us all with handmade snacks and treats whenever they stayed overnight.

Our mother, Neola Hightower London, was always glad to be included in any of those visits with them because she dearly loved her cousins Treva and Johnny. They so enjoyed recalling their youths and the "hard times" as farm families.

Decades later, Bill's path crossed mine through mutual friends, Dr. James and Ellen Kane, who shared their sailboat and New Year's Day brunch with several couples. For more than twenty years, we enjoyed that annual celebration, always visiting with Bill and Mary Lee. Reporting on his on-going effort for the Arkansas Foodbank, Bill would remember how our immediate families had helped each other through lean times and that he was inspired to help his generation in that way too.

Bill was also very proud of his construction work and would talk about his current project. His understated manner and descriptions were always interesting as well as entertaining. That work reflected his personal dedication to being a help in both large and small ways.

Bill will be remembered by those he helped and for much more. He will be missed by us all.

With deepest sympathy,
Joan Perna and Bonnie Brandsgaard
