Biography: Gwynne McGee Satterfield, of Little Rock, went to be with her Lord and Creator on September 30, 2021. She was born in Little Rock to Howard McGee and Marion Nothwang McGee. After a courageous 20-year battle with cancer, Gwynne passed away peacefully in the Satterfield’s ancestral home located in the Heights. But there’s more to the tale.
At 17 she eloped with the love of her life, Hammond Satterfield. When they met, she was a cheerleader and he the football quarterback. Their love spanned 67 years.
She moved her family 22 times across the USA due to Hammond’s job with the US Army and later the army of IBM. Always artistic (she won an art scholarship for college but didn’t accept because… remember she eloped?), she painted portraits, seascapes, greeting cards, and illustrated books. She started her own design firm – GMS Enterprises, and decorated homes across the USA.
After Hammond’s retirement, they traveled to Europe for over a decade buying and selling antiques. Hers was a wonderful life.
Gwynne was richly blessed with many, many wonderful friends whom she loved with all her heart and they in turn loved her and helped her with her fight for life. Her husband was her bedrock. But she always loved her Lord and God most of all. And of course, she is with Him now.
Gwynne leaves behind her beloved husband Hammond Satterfield and her three children – Holt Satterfield and his wife Melissa, Howard Satterfield, and her daughter Sean Johnson and her husband Theodore. Also, grandchildren – Connor Satterfield, Lauren Frazier, Michael Stanley, William Stanley, Charles Johnson, Theodore Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Ian Johnson, and Ryan Johnson, along with seven great-grandchildren (thus far).
Gwynne will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery on October 8, 2021. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Vera Lloyd Children’s Home, Little Rock, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
Love to you and yours,
