Mary was born October 10, 1961 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she was raised in a loving, Christian home. She was a proud graduate of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, going through their special education program. After high school she volunteered weekly at Aldersgate Senior Day for more than 30 years. She was active at St. James Methodist Church where she was a choir member for more than 30 years, an assistant in children's Sunday School, and an active member of the women's Joy circle. Mary was also a member of P.E.O., where she held an office for many years. Mary's very sweet nature yielded many friends through these activities. Her ability to have a full life was particularly due to her parents who lovingly and patiently helped her live with Down's Syndrome. They gave her a life full of people, singing, dancing, music, travel, and family, along with many household responsibilities. She enjoyed doing her part in the homemaking of her home and her sister's home, where she was lovingly helped raise three boys.
Mary's three nephews have great memories of her frequent days in their home caring for them and singing while rocking them to sleep. Mary was very loved by her friends and family for her sweet and loving ways. She demonstrated her thoughtfulness and deep love for her family by sending birthday cards to each person. Every card contained handwritten, beautiful sentiments along with a one dollar bill to buy a soda. Over the years as the family grew, Mary sent out over 300 cards annually. All of her family members anticipated the arrival of her sweet birthday cards and appreciated this loving and faithful gift that Mary gave each one. Mary will be remembered for her love of others, as her greatest joy was to speak words of affection and encouragement to all those she was around.
A graveside service will be held at the Episcopal cemetery in Oak Ridge, Louisiana at a later date. Memorials may be made to Camp Aldersgate, 2000 Aldersgate Road, Little Rock, 72205.
