Shortly after meeting Jennie, he joined the Arkansas National Guard and left for six months of basic training. After returning home he was hired by Pfeiffer Blass Tire, through Fidesta, a company owned and managed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He was soon transferred to Nashville, TN and later Birmingham, AL. On December 24, 1969 he and Jennie were married . After a year in Birmingham, he was transferred back to Nashville. In Nashville, he left Fidesta and went to work for Firestone. he went through a five year training period before being promoted to store manager, where he was transferred to Paducah, KY. He quickly turned a losing store into the number one store in the district. After two years in Paducah, Jennie became pregnant with their first child and he requested a transfer back to Arkansas. He was transferred to Conway, AR where he again turned a losing store into a profitable one. After two years in Conway, he was promoted and transferred to the Firestone commercial retail store in Hot Springs, AR. After being in Hot Springs for a short while, he transferred to the 3rd and Chester store in Little Rock, where soon after, he was given the opportunity to buy into the store on Rodney Parham. This was a losing store that he again turned profitable after three months. David's success was contributed to loyal customers that knew and trusted him. His store was many times rather in the top ten stores in the country, and number one in his district. The rating that made him the happiest was the customer satisfaction award, where he was rated number one numerous times. David retired from Bridgestone/Firestone after thirty-six years of service in February of 2002, at the age of 55. After retirement David and Jennie spent much of their time traveling, both nationally and internationally. He loved spending time at their lake home on Greers Ferry lake in Tumbling Shoals and his off the grid cabin and property in Izard county, where he loved to hike and ride four wheelers.
He loved to spoil his children and grandchildren. Buying for Christmas all through the year and always on the look for those special gifts and if they were on the clearance isle, then that made it much better.
Life has been very difficult for David the past year, after losing his son. We as a family believe that he is with Brent now.
