Biography: Fletcher B. Clement, lifetime resident of Little Rock, died at his home on Thursday, May 27, 2021.  Fletcher was a beloved friend and treasured by his family.

Fletcher was born July 9, 1943, to the late Fletcher B. Clement, Jr. and Imogene Clement in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  He had one sister, Linda Blaine Flake (Dickson).  He lived most of his life in Little Rock.  He also spent some of his childhood in Colorado and middle teens in Marrakesh, Morocco, where his father worked as a Civil Engineer.

Fletcher attended Little Rock elementary school and Forrest Heights Junior High.  He graduated from Hall High School in 1961.  He spent two years at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville before voluntarily enlisting in the US Army in 1963.  After training, Fletcher served his country in Vietnam with the Green Beret team fighting on the Cambodian border from 1965-1966.

Prior to leaving for Vietnam, Fletcher married Linda B. Coleman Clement (Bootsie) in 1965.  After returning from duty, Fletcher went back to college and obtained his BA in History.  He and Linda had one son, Fletcher B. Clement, IV, who was born in December, 1968.

Fletcher was a Civil War history buff who traveled extensively to battlefield sites both in the US and Europe.  Over 46 years, he had life-long friends and created an informal group, Military Miniatures of Arkansas.  The men toured America, France and England battlefields and other historical areas of interest.

Fletcher painted and constructed dioramas of military and pop culture subjects and became an International Grand Master.  He hand-constructed all of his artistic works and won numerous awards including “most creative” and “best-of-show” at competitions.  He also painted and wrote poetry, of which many were published.

Fletcher was considered an astute Thoroughbred horse bloodstock agent and built an additional business through successful syndications of unrecognized young horses.

One of his treasured group of friends were those who worked out at the same athletic club and watched and competed with the Jeopardy TV show.  With his wide range of knowledge, he often won!

Fletcher was often described by those who loved him as a Poet, a Scholar, and a Mighty, Mighty Warrior.  He once spoke of his Vietnam service as “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”.  He is now reunited with the friends with whom he served and cherished family members who proceeded him.

Fletcher will be missed here but reunited with his favorite uncle who served in WW1, his sister, and, of course, his little fat pug dog (Shirley).

Fletcher is survived by his son, Fletcher B. Clement IV, his granddaughter, Chloe Raven Clement, his niece, Leslye Shellam (Ray) and his former wife, Linda Coleman Clement.  Many other extended family share the loss of Fletcher, and friends not named here are “family” who will miss him dearly.

Services will be limited due to Covid issues, but a visitation will be planned for friends to reunite soon.  Any questions can be sent to Josh Taylor.   RuebelFuneralHome.com

What remarkable man, as others have detailed. And a true friend. His panorama of knowledge was amazing. He was indeed a Renaissance man, but most of all a friend. A shock to lose him; he will be greatly missed.

Fletcher was a wonderful man who I got to know through my stepdad Hubie Mayes (Rob Janes' uncle). Fletcher was nothing if not unique. He was not only interesting, but also interested. That's one of the many positive things I could say about Fletcher, but I'll just leave it that I am a fuller person for having known him and that you can be a normal person even with what some may call eccentric hobbies. He'll be missed.

Fletcher was loyal, artistic, intelligent, exacting, and unique. He was a great friend to Hubie and the extended Mayes family. He will be missed. We send our deepest sympathy to Fletcher's family.

I was so sorry to hear of Fletcher's passing. He was such a wonderful friend of my step-father, Hubie Mayes and my mother, Susan Mayes. Fletcher and Hubie were Oaklawn cohorts for decades and even partnered in a horse or two. After Hubie passed away, Fletcher was a true friend to my Mom. My deepest condolences to Linda and all his family.

Fletcher was close friends with my Uncle Hubie Mayes. I associated Fletcher with horse racing as he and Hubie spent much time at Oaklawn in the box they shared. They also owned horses together. One time (1991?) I met the two of them at Monmouth Park in NJ when they came to watch one of their horses. Great memory. And Fletcher was super guy who I enjoyed knowing. My condolences. Rob

We have lost one our best with Fletcher’s passing. He was personally so helpful to me on anything to do with horse racing. That was our main area of common interest. Whether it was studying a pedigree page or dealing with partnership syndication issues he was a great mentor. He obviously had the same impact on many people in many areas of his great knowledge. The world is less interesting with his passing. Condolences to his family and friends.

Fletcher is a man that I admire and I am so blessed to be able to call him friend. He and I met often at art shows and his work was epic and always the talk of the show. I miss him already and I know there was a great reunion the day he passed. He is surely talking shop with Michel Angelo and Herman Melville right now.

I am so sad that Fletcher has left us. I'll never forget his generosity and honesty and intellect and humor. Fletcher's word was his bond, and he will be deeply missed.

Fletcher could channel Goya, Otto Dix, Max Ernst, Poe and conjure up worlds poignant, horrific, yet intimate and above all else whimsical. The scope the breadth him was amazing yet he was always approachable gracious to say he will be missed, is like trying to corral the stars....my prayers go out to you all

I have known Fletcher for as long as he & “Bootsie” started dating. In reading his past accomplishments, I realized we have lost an amazing artist who shared his talents and in a quiet way overcame the ravages of the Vietnam war by being a “mighty warrior” as a poet & artist that will long to be remembered
