Biography: James Milton “Buck” Kemp, of Minden Louisiana, arrived in the loving arms of God on Tuesday,  April 27, 2021 after a long battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s.

Buck was born in Harris, Louisiana on February 23, 1939 to John Ed and Cecil Kemp. The Kemp family later moved to Minden, Louisiana where Buck graduated from Minden High School in 1957.  After attending Northwestern University in Natchitoches, Buck joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida from 1959 to 1963. Buck retired from Murphy Brothers Service Center in 2004 where he served as the manager of tire sales.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Christine Kemp Pevy. He was also preceded in death by Sigsby and Gertie Browning. The Browning’s were a very special couple that always called Buck their son.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Plunkett Kemp, children James Kemp (Donna) and Sandra De Luca (Matt). He was blessed with four grandchildren, Breylan Kemp, Kaydree Kemp, Anne Marie De Luca, and Samantha De Luca. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Kemp and several nieces and nephews.

Buck enjoyed wood working, refurbishing old cars, photography, and playing the organ. He biggest love was car racing. He raced a center drive full body dirt car for a number years and spent several years helping his son with his love of sprint car racing.

Visitation will be Friday, April 30th from 5-7 PM, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1st, at 11AM. at Pine Grove Methodist Church at 4549 LA-159 in Minden. Rev. Steve Beard will be officiating the service, pallbearers; Dale Hollingsworth, Gary Hollingsworth, Ken Murphy, Randell Murphy, Darrell Richards, and Gordon Simmons. Honorary pallbearers, Mike Bell, Harry Murphy and James Harrington.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Lakeview Methodist Church, Pine Grove Methodist Church, St Jude Children’s Hospital or to your favorite charity.
