Biography: Barbara Jean Cross (“Jean”) passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the age of 87. Jean was born April 10, 1933 in Camden, Arkansas. She graduated from Camden High School in 1951, where she was the homecoming queen. Upon graduation from high school, she attended State Teachers College (now UCA) in Conway, Arkansas.
After raising her two children, Jean and friend Barbara Baber shared a vision to create a specialty women’s store in order to give women of Arkansas a local option to find clothes previously only found in much larger cities. Out of this vision Barbara/Jean Ltd. was created. After being retired from Barbara/Jean Ltd. for a few years, Jean became Chief Financial Officer for Source Electric Supply Company in Bentonville, AR., a company owned by her son. Upon the sale of Source Electric, Jean and her husband retired to Hot Springs, AR. She moved to Little Rock in 2018.
Jean’s faith in Jesus Christ was her lifelong foundation. While she worshipped at many different churches during her life, First Baptist Church of Hot Springs was her last church and was very dear to her heart.
Jean was pre-deceased by her husband Robert Cross (Bob), her parents, Thomas and Janelle Fincher and her brother Tommie Fincher. She is survived by her daughter Karen Baldwin (Stephen) of Roseville, CA, her son Stephen Chaffin (Tricia) of Little Rock, AR, her grandchildren Kelsey Reed (Chip) of Brevard, NC, David Baldwin (Jennifer) of Bozeman, MT, Rachel Canning (Tim) of Bozeman, MT, Patrick Chaffin of Dallas, TX, Alex Chaffin of Fayetteville, AR and Matthew Chaffin of Little Rock, AR and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her step daughters Cathy Schnedelen (John) of Cookeville, TN and Linda Rogers (J.D.) of Louisa, VA and lifelong friend Dorothy Scott of North Little Rock, AR.
Special thanks go to Pam Richardson, Velma Robinson and Tranecia Jefferson for their loving and tender care of Jean in her last years and especially these last few months. Jean’s family will be forever grateful.
Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Hot Springs at 2350 Central Ave, Hot Springs, AR 71901. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
